Flour beetles during mash -- Continue or discard?

I stored them whole, I milled them yesterday. I keep my unmilled grains for baking (I became an extreme baker while not brewing) in 5 gallon food grade buckets from Home Depot. This, unfortunately, was before that development.

Flour beetles during mash -- Continue or discard?

I took about a year off of brewing as I tried to sell my gear because I didn't want to continue without kegging and couldn't afford it. Fast forward to now when I have a kegerator I got at an amazing deal. I just started my BIAB brew day after ordering new yeast and hops, however like a fool I...

    Show us your Kegerator

Amazing, that's what I gathered from research but wanted to ask for more opinions. Going to patch it up tonight. $125 to both keep me brewing and give me the best possible experience. Doesn't get much better than that. Haven't been this excited in a while. Instead of 50 bottles and still...

    Show us your Kegerator

I haven't brewed in almost a year now because I was tired of bottling but I'm also cheap and was waiting for a deal.... I scored this bundle for $125 through OfferUp. Came with Kegerator, Miller Lite handle, two CO2 tanks, and quite a few extras like spare parts and cleaning supplies. I do...

Carbonation doesn’t stay suspended when chilled

I chill my bottles to fridge temps... Above freezing, below 36F or so. The only reason I had ever tried sanitizer leftover from brewing is because the vinegar "didn't work". I am relatively convinced the nucleation points on the bottom, or settled sugar/pulp, whatever it may be if it's not...

Carbonation doesn’t stay suspended when chilled

Here's a bit of a discovery. For some reason I decided to invert the bottle to mix up all the fruit puree/sediment at the bottom after 2F and a few days in the fridge... When I did that, NO GUSHER! Too much nucleation? Regardless, all the carbonation stayed suspended and it was actually a bit...

Carbonation doesn’t stay suspended when chilled

It's not just this batch, it's every bottle I've ever made as I had said. Every single batch so far... I'm guessing my SCOBY has an infection of some sort. I used a relatively low sugar fruit this time, strawberries. I let the fermentation go for 14 days to ensure it was completely done... No...

Carbonation doesn’t stay suspended when chilled

I’m on my 10th or so batch of kombucha. The carbonation from 2F doesn’t stay suspended no matter how long I put it in the fridge for. 10-14 days 1F 1-3 days 2F (hot Florida) with 1/4 cup fruit purée/juice per bottle I have not seen a single case of this to troubleshoot on the internet. Every...

    Liquid karbonation issue

Thank you. I know that had to be it but I just wasn't sure how common, if at all, infections are when brewing kombucha... I will reduce my sugar greatly for the next batch.

    Liquid karbonation issue

Alright, and that could be caused by what? I use a pretty standard 1/4 cup fruit purée per bottle which works for everyone online. does that mean I don’t leave it in 1F long enough? Or my SCOBY is out of balance? If the latter, what could I do?

    Liquid karbonation issue

Now that they've sat in the fridge for a few days, they're still gushers. I just don't understand why. I've brewed 5 batches and only have gushers. 90% of the carbonation leaves the liquid when I open the bottles. All that's left when I pour a glass are small bubbles, and not many. Is my tea...

    Liquid karbonation issue

Thanks, I figured this was the case which is why I mentioned it was only in there for 1 day. However, this being the best batch I'm hoping it won't follow suit with previous batches, as even after a few days they were gushers. I guess I'll need yet another brewing vessel so I can have constant...

    Liquid karbonation issue

Hello all, I've got an issue with my carbonation. I created my own SCOBY through GT's Original. That has been going for about 4 batches now. This most recent one I did everything perfectly, the prior 3 batches were a bit more improv and didn't work so well. I think I may have finished the SCOBY...

What do you do with your spent grains?

Compost and dog biscuits. If I ever start a local brewery they'll be going to a local dog biscuit shop. Dog biscuits has only been a few times, I hate shoving my fist into peanut butter... Compost, I only have a single rotating bin for my raised beds. Small backyard in Florida suburb.

Used keezer, deal or no deal?

tough decision... maybe I could use all that time to finally read all the books I've been meaning to.. If possible, please think of me.... Maybe shoot me a message a week in advance of when you think it'll end up on the curb so I could rent a U-haul.

Used keezer, deal or no deal?

Well, you live in Clearwater, I'm in Stuart. This makes it enticing but I'm not sure if I'm that patient. 6 months, $1,000 is not a bad deal to me though... I had a buddy all lined up to help pickup the freezer from Sam's this week (was too big for car) No holding means it's too much of a...

Used keezer, deal or no deal?

That’s true. I have a small mini fridge because I don’t eat a single thing my family eats and I can’t fit beers in it. I’ll get the 7.1 tomorrow! Thanks everyone. I’m perfectly DIY capable I’m just... a bit lazy ;) I found a 7.1 at Sam’s, Thomson brand if I recall... cheaper than the 5.1 after...

Used keezer, deal or no deal?

alright I’ll have a friend do it. Thanks for the heads up You are not wrong. It’s just that I can make 10-15 gallons at a time. Brew day is long so I might as well opt for making 10 gallons at a time when I can unless it’s more of an experiment. It’s an efficiency thing to me. I bet half the...
