    Shaken Carboy when dry hopping

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm about to dry hop for the first time. Going to dry hop my 5th and final extract brew which is fermenting alongside my first all-grain brew... I opened the 1lb bag of hops on all-grain brew day, then stuck them in a Ziploc and placed them in the freezer...

    My first brew!

Being in Florida where the cold is rare, it’s always nice when my nipples get hard from it. Wait... What site am I on?

First BIAB underway - Centennial Blonde Ale

Post first BIAB day after sleeping like a log : The old fashioned non-electric ones work well for me and are accurate, plus it is built into the Spike+ kettle. My system requires no electricity and for the most part I plan to keep it that way even if it may not be as "useful" as an automated...

First BIAB underway - Centennial Blonde Ale

I’ve read accounts on here of people raising efficiency quite a bit by adding time to their mash, so that’s what I did, albeit partly with a now unnecessary mash out.

    My first brew!

I started brewing a few months ago and the Great Lakes pale ale is a crowd favorite even though I had to use a different yeast strain. I have brewed two extract American pale ales before moving onto all grain just today. One is still bottle conditioning, one is still in primary. I expect them to...

First BIAB underway - Centennial Blonde Ale

Alright, I won’t do it in future batches. Information is saturated. I find one source that seems respectable only to find out it’s unnecessary and possibly harmful. Chalking mash out up there with secondaries.

    Blichmann burner

Can I store my Hellfire burner in a closed (a single non-sealed door) garage that is not-air conditioned? It gets a bit of humidity, but I can cover the burner with plastic sheet if that helps. That cast iron looks like a rust bin waiting to happen but maybe I'm overreacting. I'd prefer to not...

First BIAB underway - Centennial Blonde Ale

I did a decent amount of research and I had seen this before but I simply forgot about it. Oh well...

First BIAB underway - Centennial Blonde Ale

Ok thanks, was pretty nervous since this was my first time. I put the strike water to 162F and it only dropped to around 159F even though I double milled it quite fine, I decided to add a little cool water to get it to 155F and let it go down from there. I will try your recommendations next...

First BIAB underway - Centennial Blonde Ale

I don’t get the joke. Did I do something wrong based on my previous post? I did have to relight the flame with 20 minutes left as the temp dipped 3F below target, I stirred constantly. The bag is as pristine as when it arrived post-clean.

First BIAB underway - Centennial Blonde Ale

I heated the water to 162 then put the bag in and poured half grains in, stirred, half grains in, stir (I was alone at the time). I’ve been stirring constantly regardless. These pictures were from mid-mash when I felt like posting :)

Organic, Fair Trade Honey for Brewing at +50% OFF!

lol, besides maybe an expensive conical fermenter down the road, I’m done with purchasing homebrew gear. And if I got a fermenter I’d have to get a fridge for temps, my 5 gallon buckets in a swamp cooler with a wet towel work perfectly fine to keep them around 68F for 5 days before I move them...

First BIAB underway - Centennial Blonde Ale

Thanks everyone for all the help with my extract batches. I’ve learned a lot and made some great beer so far. Great Lakes Pale Ale is a crowd favorite, does not taste like “extract”, patiently waiting for my American Pale Ale to finish bottle conditioning. I’ve updated my setup to be finalized...

    Post your infection

I got one of those cloudy blobs in a mason jar when I was trying to propagate a basil plant. Life is weird.

Organic, Fair Trade Honey for Brewing at +50% OFF!

True that, and brewing isn’t my only hobby so money is scarce. There’s a local place in Florida coming up on offering 5 frame nucs and queens... Thing is I’d have to pay for a beekeeper to get going, they wouldn’t allow a novice to purchase anything on their own, no matter how quickly I may...

    Good websites for recipes?

I'm doing my first all-grain BIAB after 6 extract brews soon. Was going to today but looks like rain in a few hours. Centennial Blonde right from the forums. Has tons of comments, reviews and seems perfect for beginners and veterans alike.

Organic, Fair Trade Honey for Brewing at +50% OFF!

Wow nice, I just ordered 2lbs of Wildflower honey but I would've purchased this if I had known... I'm looking into beekeeping now but the initial investment is a bit expensive.

Brewed my first true BIAB Sunday....

Only downside to brewing outside in Florida, it really isn’t the sunshine state! Rains nearly everyday during summer. Luckily I’m collecting rainwater to brew with but I’m not sure I can brew today. I had everything prepped. It’s 9:30AM and it’s likely to rain at or before 3PM... I don’t think...
