    Strong alcohol odor . . .

The trub? Didn't taste it. I tried vegimite (sp?) before and it wasn't good. I think that stuff comes from some kind of brewing byproduct doesn't it? And never used turbinado before (aka: sugar in the raw).

    Strong alcohol odor . . .

I racked an ESB to secondary a couple days ago and when I was cleaning out my primary I noticed the trub had a REALLy strong alcohol smell. Just like sticking your nose in a vodka bottle. Maybe I just haven't been paying attention to every other batch I've brewed, but I don't recall getting...

    whats up with Texas???

Oh yeah, I can just see him drilling himself with a 60 yard pass . . . it would be entertaining play-by-play wouldn't it? "Favre hikes it to Favre out of the shotgun. Favre drops back, going through his progression like every good quarterback does . . . he's looking off the defenders. It's...

    Blues Rocker?

I liked his debut album just fine. It definitely didn't rock, but it was good background music for a road trip with the wife. Better than listening to Enrique Iglesias or Lifehouse or that other crap she listens too . . . AHU

    after 8 years...

I feel your pain!! My wife loves anything "reality" - Bachelor/Bachelorette, American Idol, Survivor, Temptation Island, Real World, Road Rules, etc. - if it's reality she watches it. I think she loves the drama and that's exactly what I hate about it. I swore off all reality TV two years ago...

    apricot wheat beer

Wouldn't preserves be pretty close to liquified already? Preserves are like jam right? I've only used whole fruit before. Once I added to primary, once I added to secondary. I won't be adding to secondary anymore. I failed to anticpate a second krausen and the carboy puked all over the...

    whats up with Texas???

All above is true as long as long as there is a decent line in Green Bay to protect Jesus . . . I mean Brett Favre . . . and a healthy running back to keep the opposing defense honest. Otherwise he's posting good enough scores for soccer matches but not quite enough for the NFL. Maybe he...

    ulcers are flaring up!

Heh heh heh - ain't that the truth! When we moved into our house it was friggin' filthy. The last owner were going through a divorce and near foreclosure at the same time so they kinda had to get out in a hurry. Then it sat vacant in a slow real estate market (semi-rural town) for 9 months...

    Ice Beer

Ahhhh - the memories! I killed more than a few brain cells with that stuff in college. We lovingly referred to it as "Beast Ice". They sold it in 32 oz. bottles and we would often drink two before going to the bars to get a decent buzz, thereby reducing the amount of money spent at the bar on...

    ulcers are flaring up!

I'll second that. I don't really mind the honey-do's though because she does 100% of the laundry, 99.9% of the cleaning, 90% of the cooking, and about 75% of the cat box duty (I gag every time). But I still make a big deal about fixing a leaky faucet or hanging a picture because I want to...

    Anyone remember "smuggling" Coors?

Hey, I won't argue with the fact that B/M/C is relatively flavorless. For me, there is a time and place for it (just a few examples): 1)If that's all that's available. If I'm a guest at someone's house and that's all they have I'm not going to drink Diet Pepsi. Or if I'm at a bar and that's...

    Adding Water to the Secondary?

The best way to tell is with a hydrometer reading. Most recipe kits are designed to make 5 gallons of beer. So if you only had four gallons of wort in your primary, for an extreme example, and then you added water when you racked to secondary you would be dilluting the beer but not beyond what...

    Anyone remember "smuggling" Coors?

I'm too young for the Coors smuggling days but I've heard my parents talk about it. They went to college in southern Oregon and the best beer available locally was Oly so they'd routinely make trips south of the border to Cali to buy a bunch of Coors. Of the big three - Bud, Miller, Coors - I...

If you could buy one boxset (cd & dvd)...

Now you're talkin'! That's funny - just yesterday this lady at work emailed me a pic of a dude parachuting into a croc pond. So I emailed her back and said I'd seen something like that a long time ago on a Faces of Death movie. Turns out she's seen them too so we reminisced for a while about...

    Don't Open Your E-mail on Feb. 3rd?

Yeah, techies at my work said something about it. They scanned all PC's yesterday to make sure nobody already had it . . . didn't say anything about not opening our email though. AHU

If you could buy one boxset (cd & dvd)...

Did anyone mention the "Highlander" series yet? (Movie, not television). I just saw the first one on the tv in the employee breakroom and thought that could be a good desert island box set.

If you could buy one boxset (cd & dvd)...

LOL!! :p Of all the movie quotes to use for a ringtone that your bosses boss could accidentally hear, that might be the worst! Well, maybe #2 after the Shawshank line about getting sent to live with the sodomites . . . something about freight trains. That would bad too . . . AHU

If you could buy one boxset (cd & dvd)...

That'd be pretty sweet though wouldn't it? If I'm gonna buy that big of a Dead box set it better come with a bong. :cross: Maybe they could build it into the box that all the CDs come in . . . AHU

If you could buy one boxset (cd & dvd)...

Are we talking about box sets that are already on the market or "fantasy boxsets" that will probably never be made? If we're talking fantasy sets, I'd have to go with a box set of every song ever recorded by the Grateful Dead. And DVD would be all 6 Star Wars installments. If you're going to...
