Not bagging any hops during boil or dry, and not cold crashing

    1. No bagging hops during boil 2. Keeping beer in primary 3. No bagging hops during dry hopping 4. Transfer to bottling bucket 5. Bottle I've never bagged any hop additions. I know a lot of brewers who don't ever use a secondary-owner of my local home brew store is one of them. I use...

Never a taking readings , been homebrewing since'95-96

Let's not get into that. That doesn't matter. My original point is lots of home brewers don't measure OG and FG. We just don't care what the ABV is. Two weeks in a primary and if you want to a week in a secondary for clarity insures a completed fermentation. Now I track it. I use a...

    Suspicious Behavior

I had a City Cop stop and park then he walked up the driveway and stood by the brew pot and said, “What are you doing?” “Brewing beer”, I replied. “Who said you could do that?”, he asked. I said, “Jimmy”. “Jimmie?”, then off came the sunglasses. “Yeah” I smiled, “President Jimmy Carter made...

    Is My Kegerator Dead?

    That too. Good call.

    Is My Kegerator Dead?

No. It means it no longer gets cold when it decompresses. Modern made refrigerants don’t last as long as the old school R12. Charge it, don’t charge it, throw it out, buy a new one. It don’t matter to me. I was just trying to save you some bucks.

    Is My Kegerator Dead?

It doesn’t go anywhere. It just stops getting cold after compression/decompression by the compressor. Just add some more. If you think you need to bleed it off.

    Strawberry Rhubarb Gose

Back off on the coriander. Half an ounce is good for a five gallon wit. Make it .25 of an ounce-cut it in half. I wouldn't use fresh strawberries- they don't do so well in the brew process. Last time I used rhubarb and strawberries I wish I would of used strawberry extract from the brew store...

    Is My Kegerator Dead?

Happened to me too. for about five bucks you can get a bullet valve that mounts to the sealed off charging line and for about 15 bucks a can you can get the coolant. I just recharged mine and it was good to go. Not saying that's the problem but, its been my life long experience that if the...

    Spent Grain Poll

I use to make dog biscuits with it but I got tired of messing with it. Now I give it to someone with pigs, goats, and chickens.

    Refurbishing some old kegs.

Treat the o ring on the lid with a light coating of vegetable oil if it leaks. It will condition the rubber and help it become soft and pliable again.

Can you smell a CO2 leak?

Mix up some soapy water in a spray bottle and spray all the fittings and connections. It will suds up if you have a leak. If you are using hose clamps instead of Oetiker clamps you are asking for a slow leak.

    Automated Mash Stirrer?

Two things happen when you stir your mash. 1) the temperature drops- so it’s not doable if you using a tun that doesn’t heat 2) it ruins the grain bed that starts to form when it sits still and settles.

    Temperature after fermentation

Your beer will be fine. It takes a relatively long time for an ambient temperature to affect the temperature of a five gallon batch. Some say the temperature has to maintain for several days before your five gallons of beer starts to climb enough to matter.
