Splitting 5-gal batch between keg and bottles

I do that a lot. I'll brew 7 gallons: keg 5 bottle 2. I just add my priming sugar right to the bottles then fill them.

Anyone ever use brewers best natural pineapple flavoring?

You may have but, you may like it.

Are you entering the AHA National Homebrew Competition? Why? Why Not?

I stopped entering contests. I used them to help me learn how to brew within the confines of a description and style (i.e. Your category must have this color range, this hop bitterness, and this flavor profile). That way I learned to brew to the populace's expectations. After a while I got it...

Anyone ever use brewers best natural pineapple flavoring?

I haven't used the pineapple but, I've used the Raspberry, Watermelon, Grapefruit, Pomegranate, Mango, and peach. I never use more then 2 ounces total (half the bottle) ever. and I mostly used them in addition to the actual fruit or fruit juices. Never alone. 1/4 bottle of Pineapple, 1/4...

Adding fruit to a recipe for flavoring

    Watermelon Wheat First Version

If your watermelon isn't as ripe as it should be it will create a sort of cucumber aroma. Or if you cut the melon too close to the rine. I've worked with watermelon in a lot of beers over the years. It's very volatile and hard to extract flavor from because it is mostly sugars that give it...

10 years of brewing, first stuck mash? first dumper ever

In 12 years I've had two stuck sparges. Both times there was a lot of grain powder in my bag of grain from the HBS - like it was the bottom of the sack. I just dumped it into another cooler and put it back into the mash tun and remade the grain bed (after trying everything to get it to flow)...

Adding fruit to a recipe for flavoring

I leave mine whole and put them in a cheese cloth sack. For me four pounds of fruit for a five gallon batch makes a great fruit beer so for a little extra flavor in a shandy I would do may be one and a half pounds or two pounds, depending on how ripe or how rick the fruit was.

    Sparkling Water

That looks like a whole list of stuff I do not want to drink. I carbonate our tap water. Taste great. Do both and givde her a blind taste test. Bet she can't tell. Make it a triangle test two of one and one of the other to see if she can ID the odd sample. Bet not.

    Recommended Drill Bit for SS

It isn't so much what the bit is made of. It's more about the ability to keep it sharp and well lubricated while you are drilling. Start with a properly sharpened bit and drill a pilot hole. Use thread cutting oil to keep it cooled down and lubricated. I myself use a set of hole saws made...

The craft beer bubble is busting.

According to an article in Vinepair the stats released by the Brewers Association said, "We are still seeing openings outpace closings by about 5 to 1. There are 7,346 craft breweries in the U.S. with an estimated 1,049 openings and 219 closings last year." I'm thinking bad business practices...

What to do with spent grains?

Some times I make dog biscuits using peanut butter but, almost all the time I give them to some one who has chickens, or goats, or pigs. I call on the weekend to tell them i brewed and they bring the empty bucket and trade it for a full one.

What do we enjoy about brewing - the process, the results or the tinkering?

It's the process and finished product for me. I have no problem spending an entire day brewing. I still fly sparge and I still use a three vessel system. I still do 60 minute boils and I still build/repair all my own brewing equipment. To me there isn't much point in having a hobby if all...
