    Off flavor

Did you use any nutrient in the must? Ive made plenty of cider and only ever encountered strange flavours when I forgot to include yeast nutrient...If the yeast were deficient in nutrients it could have very well led to your issue

    starsan questions

Well I cant completely vouch for this being entirely effective...but Ive been saving, storing and re-using my solutions for months without any problem

Where to plant? Rhizomes or Crowns?

I would probably aim for the location with the most sun, despite the other issues...From what Ive seen they do very well in full sun...I even got a decent yield in my first year of growth under those conditions.....Also, Im not sure about your location, but around here most animals stay clear of...

    First Batch

I wouldnt worry about it - Chances are you infused some oxygen into the beer when you racked it and got things rolling again...which is a good thing

Anyone brew the Avant Garde Pale Ale from Gordon Strong's new book?

Its funny that you ask....I just brewed up this recipe yesterday, as its currently bubbling away in the fermenter...It will be a couple weeks before I can give any definitive comments, but the yeast he calls for (WLP060) seems to be working solid. Im especially interested to see how this turns...

Coopers Starter kit and a cold basement

Heya...Not sure if youve considered using a heating belt...Ive never used one before, but I hear they can be effective for warming your wort when temperatures start to dip. Im fairly certain you can buy one at defalcos for less than $20. I live in Ottawa as well, but am lucky enough to have a...

    Good day from Ottawa, ON

Just wanted to give an official hello and thanks to the members of this forum - Ive been lurking around this place for years, and figured it was time to contribute - Ive been doing AG brewing now for about 5 years, and have probably dealt with every issue known to man...but with much trial and...

    Question about using harvested yeast

It may do you good to perform a yeast rinse if you are worried about residual hops/trub...It would also double as a way of selecting out the best yeast from your previous batch - Let the beer/water mix settle so that the yeast are tightly packed at the bottom...pour off this liquid and mix in...

British Brown Ale "Old Bog Road" Brown Ale (Pm or Extract w/grain)

Im planning on trying out this recipe AG mainly to try out the use of oak cubes - Just wondering if you could further elaborate on the amount you used, when and for how long? Cheers - Thanks for this recipe...it sounds amazing
