Belgian IPA Recipe, What do you guys think?

True, What I did is I wrote down what aspects of different styles I liked and combined them. Specifically citrus, esters, mouth feel, honey... with an IPA as the base.

    Is 20' of copper enough?

I use an IC made from 20' of pipe that i picked up at HD. During the winter it chills 5 gallon batches no problem. During the summer I use the tap water to cool the wort down to 150-160 degrees and then recirculate ice water to chill it the rest of the way. Its all about having a sufficient...

Brew Masters on Discovery w/ Sam Calagione

I saw it and thought it was too commercialized and televised. I would like to see more of what goes on to making a huge batch of beer, the scale of the equipment, and the automation. The show was just to fake in my opinion, but i guess it wasn't geared for me. Anyone else watch Brew Masters...

Conical fermenter & electric BK in one?

For chilling you could always use an IC or even a counterflow or plate chiller recirculating the wort with a pump. The main issue I see is that your BK is occupied with fermentation and you would not be able to brew another batch until the previous one is done fermenting. For a lager or stout...

    Aging beer in a cave

I would bottle in those aluminum beer bottles, you cant get lighter than that. For all of you who think that metal will leach off flavors, the inside of the bottle is lined in plastic. Problems; 1) it will have to be a beer that you would drink warm, unless you have a spring to chill it in. 2)...

    homemade grinder and press

"This is a very helpful suggestion. I plan on modifying my press based on my experience this year. This will be one of the modifications" If you are going to make a lap joint you must also take into account that you will be weakening the 2x4. Consider using thicker wood.

    homemade grinder and press

Great setup, a few problems. 1) on the press plate (the piece of plywood on pressing on the apple slurry) you form a "X" with two 2x4's, only one of the 2x4 is pressing on the plywood. This results in uneven pressure which means that you are not getting the maximum juice out of your apples. Join...

Im glad this thread is back up. I was at a beer tasting last night and I remembered to bring along some vials to collect yeast samples from the bottles. Well...... I got a La Fin Du Monde yeast strain in my fridge waiting to be cultured. So expect a clone in the near future.
