Dual 2000W 120V Recirculating eBIAB Build

Hmm. Strange. Let us know your results. When mine powered off, I was able to power it back on within a few minutes. I was just using cold water at the time, as I was just checking my system for leaks. If I remember right I just let a decent amount of water drain out through the pump to help...

Dual 2000W 120V Recirculating eBIAB Build

Not sure about the thermal protection, but I know I've had my pump (not from greatbreweh, but the probably the same manufacturer) "die" on me once or twice when i was testing my system. I walked away from it and I think it lost siphon and ran dry for a short while, causing it to turn off. Is...

    Heating elements and immersion chillers

I don't believe you want the element exposed at all. I believe it'll burn out. It needs to be submerged completely. I have seen people bend the elements before so they could still use their immersion chillers, would that be a possibility?

    Heating elements and immersion chillers

Not sure what your chiller looks like, but is it possible to create a gap in the chiller that the element could fit through? I use a chiller similar to this one. I simply angle the chiller when I'm putting it in my kettle so that the bottom must rung slides underneath the element and...

Dual 2000W 120V Recirculating eBIAB Build

Russki, I was considering making a similar whirlpool arm. Did your pump have enough power to create a good whirlpool and trub cone at the bottom of the kettle? I use an immersion cooler so hopping it has enough strength to cut down on my cooling time.

Dual 120v 2000w recirculating EBIAB Build

You are welcome. Just read, read, and read again. I think I was a little disappointed once I had it all built because it was quite an experience. I lucked out and did quite well in my fantasy football leagues this year so the SWMBO conversation wasn't too bad. The threads I read the most were...

Dual 120v 2000w recirculating EBIAB Build

Yep. That makes sense. I actually did a few things different on the element than what seems to be the norm. After putting the hole in the face plate I put the element through the hole backwards, so the nut and the threads were on the outside of the face plate, and only the connection point...

Dual 120v 2000w recirculating EBIAB Build

I didn't keep a tally. Ignorance is bliss. :D I ended having to buy a lot of tools in the process between drills and knockout punches so I'm sure I spent quite a bit more than most. At first I was trying to get the best price on everything so I was ordering 1 piece from one supplier and 1 from...

How many watts needed for a "rolling" boil?

I think it depends on your kettle size. I previously had one 2000 watt element and it would not boil 5+ gallons. It would get around 207 and stick there. I think the narrower the pot the more likely 2000 should work. My kettle was fairly wide.

Dual 120v 2000w recirculating EBIAB Build

I did mash out. I didn't squeeze the bag at all, just let it drain over the pot while I was getting the wort up to temp. I brew on my kitchen counter so it was hard to get the leverage to lift the basket high enough out of the pot to slip the grill grate in between it and the pot. I just...

Dual 120v 2000w recirculating EBIAB Build

Had my first brew session with this rig today. Wow. It was so easy. I can't imagine ever doing it any other way. I didn't take any pictures as I was trying to multitask a bit too much. I hoping to brew again next week so hopefully more pictures will happen then. Overall I couldn't be...

Dual 2000W 120V Recirculating eBIAB Build

Nice brew session! I'm hoping to try out my very similar rig next week. Does the grill grate provide a good base for the basket to rest on? That's the one step in the process I wasn't sure about yet. I really didn't want to sit there and hold the basket over the pot.

Dual 120v 2000w recirculating EBIAB Build

That seems to be the only way for me to get it to work as well. I tried a few other things like holding the hose at certain heights while opening valves, and changing when I open valves but nothing seemed to do the trick. I'm thinking air is getting trapped in the dip tube and because the...

Dual 120v 2000w recirculating EBIAB Build

I haven't tried brewing yet with them, but during the auto tune and just general playing with the system they would get warm to the touch. I could easily keep my hands right on them the entire time and I don't think it would ever burn me. I seem to just be having problems getting my pump to...

Show us your element housings/pots. How did you do it?

I potted my elements in deep one gang junction boxes and put the element through the face plate side of the box. I used Powercon connectors to connect the elements to my control panel and they fit almost perfectly through the hole already in the box. Here is the profile shot. I first...

Dual 120v 2000w recirculating EBIAB Build

Here is the pot. I just finished it up and auto tuned. I cannot wait to brew now. I wrapped the silicone tubing in some anti kink coil as the tube seemed to keep collapsing on itself near the top. It seems to help, but probably not the best solution. It was only a couple bucks though...

Dual 120v 2000w recirculating EBIAB Build

Well after it seems like forever I was able to complete my control box. I'm kind of amazed that everything powered on fine. I personally will be happy to never see a unibit or hole punch ever again! I think if i had to do it all again I would have gotten a plastic enclosure just to make...

    Knockout punch advice

Thanks guys. I was thinking of the wrench on the die more more for holding instead of holding the piece of metal I was punching. I realize it wouldn't actually turn. I think I'm going to chalk this up to my lack of knowledge on the tools and the apparent inferiority of the Harbor Freight...

    Knockout punch advice

Well my harbor freight set bit the dust, I made quite a few holes but it seized up and I'm unable to separate it. I've decided to just get a Greenlee, but have a question that hopefully someone with some experience can answer. I'm already over budget so why the hell not right? While looking...

Dual 2000W 120V Recirculating eBIAB Build

Thanks for the quick response. Not that you would neccesarily know, but any idea if a power supply rated higher would damage the pump? I would think the pump would draw the power it needed, so as long as you had a 2A 12VDC as a minimum you'd be okay. EDIT: Nevermind. I came across my answer...
