    Amber Ale

I think it looks good! I think some dark crystal like would be a good addition. I use equal parts C40 and C120 in my ambers. If you want more malt flavor I would replace your 2-row with a more flavorful base malt like Maris Otter or Golden Promise. Your percentages look fine and both of those...

Dry hopping NE Style IPA During Fermentation

Good way to collect yeast for the next batch too!

Dry hopping NE Style IPA During Fermentation

I would skim the krausen then dump the hops in. Like you said, just keep it clean and sanitary.

First Attempt at an IPA Recipe

Looks much better. I'd probably move that 30 min Cascade addition to the last 5 min though. Not a big fan of 30min additions. You don't get much flavor/aroma out of them. I don't know how many IBUs you're aiming for but if the 1 oz of Chinook isn't enough you can move the 0.5oz of Nugget to the...

First Attempt at an IPA Recipe

I agree with the above poster. Drop the carapils and wheat. Maybe do a 60min addition of Chinook then add the rest of your hops in the last 5-10 mins or at flameout. I don't think a 90 minute boil is necessary. 60min should be fine.

Used Brewer's Beast #1003 Starting Kit

I agree with BeerAddikt. I have a 10 gallon myself but if you're not sure it's something you want to invest money in yet the 5 gallon is ok. If you have a friend or relative that homebrews I would suggest hanging out with them for a brew day or 2 to see what all is involved and you can get a...

Used Brewer's Beast #1003 Starting Kit

If he cleaned it well I guess it's a good deal. Honestly the brew kettle you get with those kits is pretty poor quality and if you start doing all grain with full boils the 5 gallons kettle won't cut it. You don't really need a glass carboy either. I would look into a bare bones kit like this...

Ratios of Aroma vs Bittering Hops?

Really depends what type of beer you're making. When I make an Oktoberfest I just add one charge of hops at 60min and that's it. If I'm doing and IPA I'll add very little bittering hops and a ton of aroma hops at the end of the boil. I don't think there is some 'Golden Ratio' to go by. It just...

    Session IPA

I would use Maris Otter, Golden Promise, or Belgian Pale (Dingemans or Castle) as the base malt to get more flavor. I agree with the people above saying to use some Munich and crystal to add more complexity. Mash higher than you typically would to leave some residual sweetness and body so that...

    Flowers/Cones in May?

Wow. What variety? The leaves look a little funky too. Does the plant look healthy? I'm wondering if it's stressed which is causing it to flower early.

Diastatic power of Mild Ale Malt

It should have enough to fully convert but a couple pounds of MO or GP definitely couldn't hurt!

    Chinook/Cascade Pale Ale

Taste good though, right? Hops don't always taste like the descriptions. The flavor and aroma is highly variable depending on the growing year, region, and farm they come from. My homegrown hops don't taste like the commercial equivalents but they're still good. Also, the yeast you use plays...

Blood Orange American IPA first try

3-5 days for dry hopping is perfect. An ounce of dry hops will be noticeable but not overpowering. I've never used blood oranges but I imagine a couple pounds would be more than enough to give you some citrus character. I would juice them and pasteurize them. Heat the juice to ~170F and hold for...

First year hop grower, excited to get started

They look good so far! Do you have a trellis up yet? They grow fast so you definitely need to have space for them to climb ready soon.

Norman, OK water profile. Can I work with this?

Oh, and ppm and mg/L are equivalent if that helps you enter things into a calculator.

Norman, OK water profile. Can I work with this?

Are you doing extract or all grain? If extract I wouldn't worry too much about the water as long as you remove chlorine and chloramine. Your alkalinity is pretty high. Really you'd want less than 100 mg/L and ideally less than 50 mg/L for lighter styles. You would be fine brewing...

Kegerators by Keg Connection or Alternative?

It's worth it. Don't mind the guy saying you should get the flow control. Sounds like he doesn't know how to pour a beer.

Kegerators by Keg Connection or Alternative?

This is what I have and it's great. The temp goes from 32F to 75F so you can also use it for fermentation. Comes with all of the fittings needed for ball lock kegs. http://www.beveragefactory.com/draftbeer/kegerators/home-brew/kegco-HBK309B-3-digital-homebrew-kegerator.html They have new kegs...

How portable is a typical kegerator?

I wouldn't even bother moving it out for parties. Get a few pitchers, fill them up, bring them downstairs and your friends can serve themselves. All of my friends suck at pouring beer from the tap anyway! If you're going to a party fill up a few growlers and you're good to go.
