    Beginner Bottling Questions

that's a good idea about stirring every 12 or so beers. I try to never sample a beer until atleast 2 weeks, but 3 weeks is preferred. This hobby is really about patience. Patience will make your beer better. Even when the beer is carbed, it may not be ready to drink. The yeast needs to...

Bottled my first brew, question on wasting beer in bottom of bucket?

I tip mine when racking into the bottling bucket and it does not seem much yeast until t very last. I have an attachment on the bottom of my racking cane that helps keep out the trub. I bought the auto-syphon. What I do is before I start to bottle, I let it settle in the bottling bucket for a...

    Suggestions for first extract brew??

My suggestion is this: http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewing/recipe-kits/extract-kits/extract-ale-kits/bavarian-hefe-weizen-extract-kit.html This is an easy beer to make, good for a first beer, especially if you like wheat beers. There are no specialty grains and it just calls for a primary...

Skeeter Pee instructions using dry yeast?

How did everyone like it? I just made a bad of skeeter pee today and pitched dry yeast instead of slurry. I used Red Star Premier Cuvee. I pitched my dry yeast right out of the packet into the pee. It was probably a little on the warm side. I know the instructions say to sit it for a a day or...

Gonna brew a honey basil ale and have a question...

Did you do the extract version? It seems like most beers need about 3 weeks minimum to start to develop the right flavor. Beers always taste weird to me before 3 weeks.

Gonna brew a honey basil ale and have a question...

The recipe calls for 2oz of basil. I am not sure how many oz I added. I bought one of those fresh basil plants and used aboiut 2 thirds of it. It didn't smell that strong in the pot. I boiled the basil for about 7 minutes along with the lemon and lime zest. It's been going crazy in the...

    New Brewer First ocktoberfest

if you're not set up to lager or not comfortable with lagering yet. You can brew the BB Oktobefest as an ale and it comes out pretty good, tastes very close to an Oktoberfest. This was the first kit I brewed. It fermented at around 64*. I left it in the primary for two weeks and then secondary...

    bottling with modelo negra bottles

I went ahead and used them. I have a red winged capper. We shall see how they turn out. I turned a few upside down and no leakage. I hope they work cause that is a tasty brew. It is unlike anything I've tasted.

    bottling with modelo negra bottles

I was pretty excited about using these bottles. I think they look cool. It sucks if I can't use them. I already bottled a case worth. I would hate to find out they weren't airtight. This beer came out really good too. This is quite a pickle. This is also my first foray into recipe...

    bottling with modelo negra bottles

I brewed an ale version of a vienna lager and wanted to bottle them in modelo negra bottles. I am bottling them right now. I should have checked before, because the caps are going on funny. Seems like they are tight, but going on the same way they do on normal bottles. I am a little worried. I...

    Sun exposure

I think you are ok. I think it is the hops that are affected by the sunlight. Someone else can confirm. I say brew! I would probably just brew anyway and not worry.

skunky beer, the truth and the fiction

When I was in high school back in the mid nineties, we had our parties and everyone always claimed skunky beer was the result of beer being cooled and then warmed. I have always held on to this theory and have never heard otherwise until I got into homebrewing. I remember kids hiding beer in the...
