    Physical clues of conditioning?

I like to bottle a few of each batch in plastic soda bottles. Give them a squeeze to force out any air before you screw on the cap. You can tell that carbonation is happening by the firmness of the bottle over time. It's not a perfect solution but it does give a little warm fuzzy that...

Homebrew for your non Homebrew friends

So true, balrog! That night I ordered their Brown Ale and, to my amazement, when my dad ordered a 2nd beer he got the Brown Ale. :) I don't care for the banana and clove of Hefeweizen but I can understand his point that you know what to expect from that style of beer.

Homebrew for your non Homebrew friends

I was going to mention this, too. Although, I can only speak from one recent instance. My dad (devout Bud man) and I were at a pizza place that brews their own beer. He started to order a Bud Light and I ribbed him for it in a place with a brewery, so he got their Hefeweizen. I commented...

    A different hop strategy

I'm curious to see how this works out, too. It's an interesting idea to see if you're able to avoid the loss of hop flavor etc in big beers.

Not sure what to tell LBS

Amazingly, the place closest to me that sells home brew stuff is actually cheaper than online with many items. I don't know how they do it. Unfortunately, it isn't a HBS place and so far I haven't come across any employee with home brewing knowledge. I get strange looks from the cashiers as...

How to give away your brew

From reading through a fraction of the mountain that is Edwort's apfelwein thread, I'd suggest letting the stuff you have age longer. Assuming you're not short on space! A lot of people suggested that ciders/apfelwein sort of recipes do well with a lot of age (maybe the same holds true for...

How to give away your brew

It's possible people aren't enthusiastic about the styles you're brewing. My family/friends who drink beer are mostly BMC, and the other half hate beer. I've been trying to find a good cider recipe for the latter but they'll also require back sweetening and a lot of it - they're the type who...

Does anyone else have a BYO B1G1 they want to split?

Use for Second Runnings and Spent Grain?

This is a great thread and something I planned to research more. I've been saving my grains since my first batch with the idea of making banana muffins, if nothing else. These other ideas are really handy. I'll be moving smack in the middle of several horse pastures soon - if the homebrew...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I should bottle a batch of BrandonO's Graff this weekend. I've added a few tools and pieces of advice to my arsenal so hopefully it'll be a faster/easier process.

    Caribou Slobber

CS extract kit was my very first experience with home brewing. I handed out a few bottles to friends and family. One coworker's husband (who is a self-proclaimed beer snob) said it was far better than Moose Drool. It's my favorite out of the few batches I've made so far. Probably going to...

    Why can't I find a good IPA?

I don't even bother trying IPAs anymore. That style is not for me. They're far too bitter, which is odd because I'm the person who will pass on desserts and other sweets yet I like a malty/sweeter beer.

Small Batch Sustainable Brewer in Southern VT

Welcome! I've been curious about using rain water for brewing. Don't have the collection set up at the moment but if a home purchase goes through then I might (fingers crossed) inherit a couple huge tanks with the property.

    HomebrewSupply.com Grand Re-Opening Sale!

Good luck with re-opening. So many kits to choose from but I'd have to go with the Shocktop Clone extract. Thanks!
