    Is this good kombucha?

I'm not sure if black marks are an indication of anything. From what I've read, as long as it isn't fuzzy you're good to go.

    First Time Making Cheese

I finally got brave enough to try cutting one of the wheels. Knife got halfway into the middle and the whole wheel cracked in half! I stubbornly heated a bit in the microwave and that got it a little gooey, briefly. Did some research and what I could find everyone says there's no hope to save...

    Tap-A-Draft Alternatives

That's great info to know. I was thinking of it as not wanting to take the carb cap off and lose a bunch of CO2. Makes that an even better plan to only buy one cap. Thanks again!

    Tap-A-Draft Alternatives

Thanks for all the feedback and discussion! I'm definitely trying to avoid wasting money on things I won't use long term. The carbonation cap might just be the best option for now. I can purchase a standard CO2 tank and regulator to use with the caps (equipment that I would keep using once...

    Tap-A-Draft Alternatives

Thanks for the idea and info about 1.75 kegs. They are definitely pricey for their size, though! Part of the idea for going small is so I can have several different brews on tap at once. If I have to share fridge space until I can buy a better set up then small kegs are even more necessary...

Alternative to Siphoning (I hate it.. Help!)

Unfortunately not, but thanks. It looks like MoreBeer owns that domain now and clicking "buy" redirects you to a page not found. :(

    First Time Making Cheese

I think my camemberts are in trouble. :( They're drying out and hard. The humidity has been near 80%, but maybe that's too low. Tonight I'm going to pick up some containers like passedpawn posted and try another batch. Will it have enough time to ripen and be ready for xmas, though? Any...

Alternative to Siphoning (I hate it.. Help!)

If you find a Tap-A-Draft please let me know. I've found them listed here and there but, like the link you provided, they're out of stock. They stopped making them several years ago. I'd love to talk alternative options. Maybe in another thread?

    Tap-A-Draft Alternatives

The Tap-A-Draft systems have been out of production for several years, from what I can find about them on the net. It's a shame because that would've been perfect for me. I'd like to discuss other options. The cost of kegging is too expensive and requires too much space for me right now but I...

    Budweiser's "vintage" stubby bottles

My brother just mentioned these to me the other day. He thought he'd found some really neat bottles for me but quickly found out they're twist off.

Alternative to Siphoning (I hate it.. Help!)

The bottling bucket is the same thing as a fermenting bucket (or you can spend a little more for a big mouth or fermonster). If you have a bottling bucket with a spigot hole already then you can see where it needs to go. You'd need a drill and a 1" hole saw, and ruler/measuring tape. I...

    First Time Making Cheese

Thanks, @bernardsmith ! That recipe is perfect for this weekend. I have a gallon of milk and some buttermilk I really need to find a use for before it's too late. Might even give it a go this evening after work.

Preventing trub from making it on the fermenter

I pour my wort through a strainer into the bucket. That catches a lot of trub, aerates the wort, and lets me get a lot more of the wort into the fermentor.
