    Inconsistent beers with bottling

Could it be a matter of you drinking a beer that's still a little green versus one that's conditioned a bit longer? Or are you noticing a difference drinking 2 beers from the same batch in one sitting?

    Trying Sours...Recommendations?

I'm enjoying the discussion on this. Thanks, guys. :) @RPh_Guy thanks for mentioning Untappd. I've seen references to it and haven't gotten around to finding out what it actually is/does. Sounds like a good time to jump into using it since I'm just starting out journaling my beer tasting...

    Trying Sours...Recommendations?

I need to add a beer tasting journal along with my brew day journal. That's a really good idea @BrewInspector to keep notes of that stuff. It's probably something I should be doing overall and not just with the sours, to improve my brewing. I saw some Lagunitas sours at my store - glad to get...

    Trying Sours...Recommendations?

Thought I would provide feedback on the Bell's Larry's for anyone interested. Bear in mind my palate is not that refined...but I kind of dig this one. It's very citrusy with a puckering tang. A lot of grapefruit flavors to me with that kind of bitterness in the aftertaste. Without anything...

    Trying Sours...Recommendations?

I was surprised to see so many New Belgium show up when I did a search for "sour" at the store here. I wish it was so easy to find them once I'm IN the store. This is all really good feedback, thanks! @RPh_Guy appreciate the research into Larry's. I haven't had a chance to do anything...

    Trying Sours...Recommendations?

Thanks for the suggestions! I appreciate the list of some specifics to look for. I did a search on the store's website and was able to find everything but Gueuze Tilquin. They have several from Jolly Pumpkin but I can't tell if any are sours. I'm certain I've tried a Lindemans before and...

    Trying Sours...Recommendations?

I've gotten curious after reading some threads about sours. Any recommendations to see if this is a type of beer I'd like? I stopped by the closest thing we have to an LHBS this evening and asked them. Ended up with Bell's Larry's Latest Sour, I think it's called. I plan to crack one open...

Anyone who lived in Germany circa mid 80's. Beer seems different.

I was stationed in Vogelweh in the late 90s. Unfortunately, I wasn't really interested in beer at the time so I wasted my time there! I did try a few now and then. I remember that Warsteiner and Bitburger were considered meh beers by the locals. The first beer I tried was a Parkbrau...

I went for it...with the peanut butter

Switching from glass carboy to Stainless Fermenter for < $50

That's where my thoughts went with it, too.

    Bru'n Water, alkalinity, BIAB...

Sorry that wasn't clear. I sent in a water sample while the softener was not working. So the water softener actually makes my situation worse? I know it isn't the same as filtering water but I was thinking it would be at least a small improvement. Thanks for your reply. The water...

    Bru'n Water, alkalinity, BIAB...

Huge facepalm moment. I'm in a new-to-me house and finally got around to checking the water softener. It had no salt in it and probably hasn't since well before I moved in. Will that affect a lot of my numbers besides hardness and sodium? I found I can get a free hardness test and will look...

I went for it...with the peanut butter

Sorry I don't have any advice/feedback for you but I'd like to hear the progress of your experiment. I'm not a huge PB fan, yet I have a slight obsession with wanting to brew a choco PB beer. It's high on my list of oddball stuff I want to try once I get my staples pipeline sorted.

Pros and Cons of glass carboys

I think you got most of the pros and cons down. I'd add a pro of better for long term aging. Then again, many swear the plastic Better Bottles do just as well. The cons are enough to convince me not to mess with them, even if someone gave me one for free.

    Getting too comfortable brewing!!

Saturday I managed to have a brew day after an almost 3 month lapse. Kept thinking to myself that I must be forgetting something because it went so smoothly. I have some upgrades planned so that will surely shake things up for me, though.

    Bru'n Water, alkalinity, BIAB...

That's the step I was missing. Thank you both.

    Bru'n Water, alkalinity, BIAB...

Thanks for your reply, and the spreadsheet, Martin! I'm probably missing something obvious... Here's what I have, and no additions are showing up under the acids section. I realize my water volume is probably a little low considering grain absorption, etc and would change that for a real recipe.

    Bru'n Water, alkalinity, BIAB...

I've been slowly working my way through figuring out Bru'n Water. It's overwhelmingly thorough! I know it will get easier to use once I get past the learning curve. I'm stuck on the water adjustment sheet right now. I plan to do no sparge BIAB. On the spreadsheet it says to set sparge...
