For those that have a beer engine, traditional or handmade...

I bought this one.... from Northern Brewer 5+ years ago. I think it was more like $400 when I got it, and I used some gift cards/specials so it cost "me" about $200 at the time. It works really well. You can find them cheaper, older, authentic on eBay.... but, you many need to have some degree...

    iBrewMaster 2 problems

I can't get mine to come up at all anymore. I switched to Brewer's Friend. If you still can get into anything on iBrewmaster, I recommend e-mailing the recipes you care about to yourself. At least that way they still exist.

For those that have a beer engine, traditional or handmade...

Here is another thread that has an example too that is a little more straight forward. https://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?88278-Beer-Engine-Stand-Cabinet Worth noting, whenever I use mine, it is basically for a few hours at a time. I am not trying to keep the beer cold....... I take the...

For those that have a beer engine, traditional or handmade...

Woodworking is not really in my wheelhouse..... but, I am going to have someone build me something like this. Does not take up a lot of room, Looks nice when it is not in use, back is open to get at the tubing, etc. Keg is out of site in the back. Portable if I want to move it to different...

For those that have a beer engine, traditional or handmade...

I have one like above. I am actually having a local wood worker build a permanent stand for it in the next month or two. It works great and is not a huge deal to set up, clean, use, etc. I don't use it a lot, but I like having it. I don't use it as an "every day" tap option. However, I plan...

Northern Brewer 20% off - When????

A lot of times those deals don't work on some things like blichmann products etc..... so, make sure the item you want actually can have the sale applied to it. Generally, you are not going to go get a brew system for $3000 for example and get to use a 20% off coupon in your cart. Black Friday...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I use an immersion chiller. Often I put a dose of hops in just as I start the chiller and then a second dose after a few minutes when the temperature hits 160 or lower. I use the wort chiller to stir/whirlpool the wort throughout. I have pretty cold tap water (55 or so). I would say I am...

    NHC / NHBC 2020

I have sent mine to Kansas a couple times - they do a nice job and are among the best with quick turn around on results, score sheets, etc. It is a good place to send. They are always my first or second preference depending on what the other locations are.

Sometimes they go out over a couple days, but check your spam/junk folder too.

Weyermann Barke Pilsner - I made FIRE!

Prima is one of my all time favorite beers. My parents are currently vacationing out east and I already have my order in for 2 cases of it. Regardless as to how "true to style" it is, I would put it in my "one beer forever" category. I have been using the Barke malts - Munich, Pilsner and...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

I brew this "session" version often and frequently use the following hop schedule in it. 60 minute 1/2 oz. Centennial 30 minute 1/2 oz. Centennial Flame out 1 ounce each of Centennial, Amarillo, Simcoe Chill to under 160 or so and another 1.5 ounces each of Amarillo and Simcoe...

    Recipe/hop schedule

I agree with something like what is suggested here. Only use 1/4 pound of the crystal 75 (using it all will be to much caramel/crytal sweetness) and then use the rest of the 2 Row/Maris. I agree with the Wilamette/Hallertau combo for something "English" like or you could go with a...

    Copper immersion chiller question

+1 on the above..... PBW soak, Rinse, Star San soak. Done. I always put mine in last 10 minutes before end of boil to sanitize. Just rinse off well after use.

I want an AWESOME bottle brush!

Yep - as mentioned. * I use a 15 gallon round plastic "Bushel Basket Type" Tub. * Fill with 10 gallons of Hot PBW solution * Soak 2 cases of bottles over night (or however many you need/want) *Use the faucet adapter to power rinse the PBW off the next day * Store them upside down in case until...

    Homemade hot sauce recipes

Thoughts on using a sous vide to pasteurize jars of hot sauce with things like fruit juice or carrot juice added?

    Homemade hot sauce recipes

+1...... I use RO water for all of my ferments. The use of starters is also nice as I tend to just stockpile peppers in the freezer until I need them.

    Homemade hot sauce recipes

Someone can correct me if I am wrong..... but, I believe it is best to start each ferment from scratch as opposed to "repitching" a previous ferment brine. I did this a couple times with kraut and was never as happy with subsequent batches. Something about the stages of fermentation imparting...
