Everyone throw your ideas on maintaining a lacto temp on a Kettle sour please!

My grocery store down the road has these. So I add and just let ferment till my ph is reach and I can do this at room temp? Will ph be reached faster if I add more (say 3-5 of these?)

Everyone throw your ideas on maintaining a lacto temp on a Kettle sour please!

Thanks this sounds awesome and may have solved my issues I've been worried about. So just start the kettle sour like I would normally and when I reach my PH I can do my usual 60 minute boil and hops, etc.??? And all this can be done at room temp?

Everyone throw your ideas on maintaining a lacto temp on a Kettle sour please!

I have been psyching myself up for about a month now to brew my first sour (and experimenting with different local brewery sours to see which flavor I want to go with). I think I have decided my first one is going to be a raspberry ginger sour. I also think I have my "how to" pretty much down...

Good Hop for a Strawberry sour?

Do you think Huell Melon would be a nice "light" hop to add to a strawberry based kettle sour? I don't want overpowering hops but I want some in there.

    First kettle sour

Interesting read. I too plan on cranking up some sours soon (for the first time). Question: After your 36-40 hour time period of souring on lacto, if you plan to go into a 60 minute boil afterwards, do you skim off any pellicles or "funk" off the top, or do you move kettle straight to the...

    Proper steps for filtering beer???

I am prepping to filter my brew for the first time and wanted to run my "perceived" plans past everyone and see if I am on point or missing something: 1. I intend on racking beer into clean/sanitized keg from secondary fermentor. I think I may put sanitized paint strainer bag at end of racking...

Beersmith Equipment profile for a Coleman 72 qt Xtreme Cooler mash tun

I just bought a Coleman Xtreme 70 quart cooler and converted it into a mash tun. I was wondering if anyone has the proper profile numbers (weight, dead space, size, wort loss, etc.) to plug into Beersmith to represent the features accurately?? Thanks in advance if you can help!

Adding on to Strawberries tonight. Any suggestions to avoid infection?

I have been fermenting for 3 days now and plan to add about 10 lbs of frozen store bought strawberries to my fermentor, but am super worried about infection. I have seen several different posts all which vary. So, which should I do: 1. Add frozen strawberries to primary frozen (just dump in)...

Pre boil gravity way off Need help ASAP as I am bringing to boil now

Mashed 12.5 lbs of crushed grains, mashed in at 162 for a mash temp in my igloo picnic cooler at 152 degrees. Temp dropped to 148 so I added 1.5 qts of boiling water brought it to 152. Hour long mash, first drawings. Then batch sparged with 4.8 gallons at 168 for 12 minutes. Ended up with...

Yeah. I think I panicked a little. Sample wort cooled a little now and preboil is up to 1.030. Feeling better.

Pre boil gravity way off Need help ASAP as I am bringing to boil now

do you suggest roll with regular hop schedule? Just broke into a boil (also I am going to add fruit after 3 days of fermentation and that should add some fermentible sugars as well)

Pre boil gravity way off Need help ASAP as I am bringing to boil now

First all grain under way!!!! My preboil gravity goal was 1.049 and 7.4 gallons. I have over 8 gallons and pre-boil was only 1.020. Should I boil down until proper volume reached BEFORE pitching first hops or roll with everything as usual and just boil longer in the end???

Any good ideas on testing the seal on my plastic fermentation bucket??

Excellent suggestion MaxStout, but I have to laugh a little. I live in Mississippi (compared to MN) so comically I have to ask, "What is cool air???" :)

    Gas Lines for Kegerator

I know length of beer line matters for foam purposes, but does the length of the gas line matter? I want to replace my short gas line into the kegerator so I can extend a longer gas line outside the door of kegerator and force carb with ease. Obviously this would be replacing my 2-3 foot gas...

Any good ideas on testing the seal on my plastic fermentation bucket??

I was planning on cranking up the brewing again and my equipment has been in the closet for quite some time. I wanted to use my fermentation bucket for primary and rack into my bottling bucket for secondary (ultimately filtering into keg). I am concerned that the buckets being in storage may...
