    Ask me anything!

If water doesn't freeze, the beer will be fine. A temp controller is good if you wanted to use it as a fermentation chamber. As a side note, a friend has an old side by side fridge that uses the chill from the freezer to cool the fridge. He has a controller set at serving temp in the...

What craft beer do you secretly despise?

Schlafly's barley wine is just terrible.

    Craft Beer MAW(Easy Version)

Hey toby, that mechahopzilla beer from NOLA was awesome. Pretty sure I liked that more than 2 hearted from bells. The others -including ghost in the machine -were spot on as well (my make a wish beer was as good as I hoped too). Maybe I've had 2 Hearted too many times but seriously that...

    Craft Beer MAW(Easy Version)

I'm glad you got them! The whole while I was embarrassed the complications happened (from my terrible packaging). I definitely know better now! I did buy almost every New Glarus they had at the store though I wish I could have found NG's Scream IIPA, it's a favorite of mine. A run down of...

    Craft Beer MAW(Easy Version)

I listed that first package as household supplies. When they gave it back I didn't get the impression I was blacklisted but I'll probably hold off from using them. I didn't get a lecture, but then again it was a younger guy who gave me back my package. Also when I called UPS about the...

    Craft Beer MAW(Easy Version)

You got it! I'm excited to try them. Also, I'm stopping at FedEx in between work sites today so hulud, you should have a PM by the end of the day.

    I like that idea.

    Craft Beer MAW(Easy Version)

Sorry about the lack of updates. Received my package on Friday from Toby! Unfortunately my package to hulud was returned. Almost done repackaging. Going to run to the store and pick up a couple extras to hopefully make up for the delay. Cheers!

    Craft Beer MAW(Easy Version)

Will do. Got the package back and UPS took some beer out. Not sure if it was broken or just a "beer tax". No worries though, this guy bought doubles of almost everything. I work til 11p tonight but will get it repackaged and sent in the next day or so.

    Craft Beer MAW(Easy Version)

Bad news, one of the brews leaked and my package to Hulud got returned to the UPS store. At least they are giving me back the box of beer. I'll re package (better this time ) and send it out again via FedEx.

    Craft Beer MAW(Easy Version)

I'm looking really weird opening a package full of beer while here at work! Thanks Toby, will have to explore it more thoroughly when I get off!

Beer in route to Hulud. Don't laugh at the packaging materials.

    Craft Beer MAW(Easy Version)

Got Hulud's package all sealed up. So what's everyone's favorite method to ship these pigs?

    Craft Beer MAW(Easy Version)

Updating my original post: I live in Iowa and would appreciate any beer I can't get here. My personal preference is for strong beers (barley wines, imperial stouts, porters, ipa/double ipa/black ipa). I also enjoy a good sour. I don't drink many Belgian style beers, but if you have an...

    C02 leak :(

Hook up more co2, spray system with soapy water and look for the bubbles. You might also be able to heat it. Thats frustrating, hope you get it figured out. Are you positive it's coming from the disconnects?

Brewing beer (is it easier than I think)?

Your understanding is inaccurate. If you get a 5 gallon extract kit it'll basically tell you the following: Boil water ~3 gal to sanitize. Let cool to ~150. Seep grains for an hour at 150. Remove grans. Stir in extract. Bring to boil (watch for boil overs). Add hop additions (typically at...

Adding Sugar To Fermenter After 3 Weeks

Yes that's fine and it should ferment out easily. You risk infection any time you open the carboy, but people do it. I've added honey to an ipa after 2 weeks with no issues. I think the real question is do you dissolve the sugar in water, boil, chill, then add. Or do you add the sugar directly.

You know you're a home brewer when?

Really? I've soaked in pbw overnight with no luck. Same issue with southern tier and a local brewery that use stickers. Such a pain compared to normal labels.

    Bottling from Keg

I'm not sure why you wouldn't if you had it. GF got me a beer gun last year. It's easy to clean, simple to use and makes bottling fun (girlfriends don't always have the most patience for bottling). Yes there are cheaper, just as effective ways to bottle but if you have the tool already, why not?
