Quick question about End specific gravity

I'm brewing my first batch of beer and have a quick question about end specific gravity. I pitched the yeast on Thursday night of last week. Friday morning, it was bubbling away. It bubbled over the weekend into Monday morining. Monday night and this morning there was no bubbling. So, I...

    New Brewer in Nashville, TN

Hello! I posted several times before this and then realized I didn't introduce my self here! Attempted to brew my first batch of Red Ale (from a kit using LME and some steeped grains). I'm in Nashville but came here via a long road that started in PA, went through NOLA, up to Syracuse and...

First brew from Red Ale kit. SG a little off...

Made (attempted) first brew with a couple of buddies last night. Used a Red Ale kit ( i forget the name of the brand). Had a little trouble keeping it boiling for 60mins, but o/w did ok. I checked SG and it was 1.042 when I was about to add yeast. The kit says it should be 1.048-1.05 2...

Do I need to add yeast to ensure fermentation of sugar in the bottle?

This is a general question. If I use a secondary to help clear up my wort, how do I know if I have enough yeasties to carbinate in the bottles? Do ever need to worry about this? I read (somewhere?) that this may be something to worry about with lager brewing, but not ales. Thanks!

Does anyone do an Oxygen was out for secondary fermentation?

Thanks Reelale! You guys are quick here!

Does anyone do an Oxygen was out for secondary fermentation?

Thanks Gregger, for the quick reply. Another question for you. If the secondary is to improve clarity, does anyone try and centrifuge the whole thing to force all particulate matter to the bottom of the carboy? I know these are crazy questions, but I was a chemistry major in college and was...

Does anyone do an Oxygen was out for secondary fermentation?

(I meant "washout") I am going to try and brew my first batch of beer this Thursday. I have a "Red Ale" kit to use ( I can't remember the brand). I'm about half way through Palmer's book to prepare myself and have a question... I'm still debating whether or not to transfer my wort for a...
