Planning my next brew - Pale ale

Did a gravity check last night and it is down to 1.006 from 1.040 and pulled the hop bag out of the brew this morning, if the gravity is still the same when I check again on Thursday night I will be looking at bottling this coming Saturday which will have given the beer 16 days in the fermenter.

Making some changes before my next brew and hopefully for the better

After more thought i wasn't really happy with that foil stuff so I went into bunnings yesterday and found some 10mm thick polystyrene insulating board for $13 so have redone the insulating on it was just the inside of the doors i couldn't do

I think this one may have come out pretty darned good

I do not have a beer jug to pour the beer into was fine on the first glass but once the hops and sediment stirred up thats when i got the hop bits but didn't worry me

I think this one may have come out pretty darned good

Just a quick update i opened a bottle today and changing seals and just dropping one carbonation drop into the bottles to get carbonation level up has worked was very lively as soon as you opened the bottle (was like opening up a can of coke that had been shaken) so i finally got to enjoy a nice...

    Are SMaSH recipes worth it?

How many kilos or pounds of malted grain would i need for a 20 to 23 liter batch as this may be a good starting point for me in trying to make an all grain beer using the BIAB method.

    Are SMaSH recipes worth it?

Funny how you can call it that just because it is not done from the grain stage.

    Are SMaSH recipes worth it?

Ok you guys have got me interested in this SMaSH beer, I have some flyer hops that are suited for a dark beer so looking at doing one with 3.5KG of either dark or amber LME and use the flyer hops (19 grams@60 min, 12 grams @15 min and 10 grams @5 min) IBU 20-27 range and ABV of 5.3% which should...

Making some changes before my next brew and hopefully for the better

Absolutely that shelf will be fine for 10-15 litre batches but i prefer it to be kept for fermenting wine as that is mainly done in small batches which is what is on that shelf when i took the picture. Edit: I found some 2 inch foam blocks tonight and placed them in the void under the cabinet...

Making some changes before my next brew and hopefully for the better

That shelf above the fermenter will not be used for 23 litre batches of beer only the bottom will be used for that as that is where the heat pad is. Top shelf small batches only

Making some changes before my next brew and hopefully for the better

That would take up too much room as the cabinet is only 380mm deep and the fermenter only just fits in there I have to actually turn the fermenter so the tap is facing the side of the cabinet so I can shut the doors , in saying that I can actually feel some warmth in there now when you stick...

I think this one may have come out pretty darned good

I have changed all of the seals and dropped one carbonation drop per bottle into them even though the bottles are 750ml as some were slightly carbed along with a hop pellet each (triskel pellets) I will give it a couple of weeks and see how it goes. It may only be a coopers real ale kit but may...

Making some changes before my next brew and hopefully for the better

Starting to insulate the cabinet ran out of staples and need macguyver tape to do the back

I think this one may have come out pretty darned good

I am going to try the suggestion that sparkncode made and drop some more carbonation drops into the bottles and change those darned seals hell i may even drop a hop pellet into each bottle too (or is that a bad idea with the hop pellets)

I think this one may have come out pretty darned good

Yes it is very irritating but a valuable lesson learned what alerted me to the possibility of faulty seals is the bottle that I opened I was able to take that seal off the cap with no resistance.

Planning my next brew - Pale ale

Did a gravity test this evening while the beer was sitting at 20 degrees C which came in at 1.020 I bought some Triskel and flyer (these are going to be for a dark ale) hop pellets that I found online on clearance due to an overstock and should be arriving tomorrow so I am looking at dry hopping...

I think this one may have come out pretty darned good

I think I may have lost most of this batch I used swing top bottles that I had purchased secondhand some of the beer has fully carbonated and some are as flat as a pancake and they are going into week 3 since bottling, I suspect some of them may have worn out seals so I ordered some new ones to...

Planning my next brew - Pale ale

Ok so just a quick update I was not going to say anything on this part in case I got my ass kicked for doing it but yesterday I decided to make some hop tea with 30 grams of the hop pellets and dumped it into the fermenter even though fermentation had started checked again today and fermentation...

Planning my next brew - Pale ale

I got a 100 gram of green bullet hop pellets for $9 which can be used for dry hopping so will give them a try on this brew and steep some hops into it on the next brewing session. Edit: I think next brew I am going to use unhopped malt and do the whole boil process and hop additions instead of...

Planning my next brew - Pale ale

Ok I have put the brew together and taken it out to the fermenting cabinet my OG ended up at 1.040 which is slightly under the predicted one on brewers friend but that is OK, I think I may have messed up a little as I put the DME into the hot water and gave it a good stirring at 60 degrees C...

Planning my next brew - Pale ale

Ok I have been messing about with the brewers friend calculator even though I possibly can not get an accurate result due to not knowing what hops were used in the kit itself the result it gave me was something along the lines of an English pale ale (I was going through the different beer types...
