    Tried everything. Still getting foam

I had this problem a few weeks ago. Did you clean the ball lock on the out post? I didn't clean the ball lock and there was a bunch of gunk that was causing the foam.

Are you a Snob or an Enthusiast?

Yes, BMC appeal to the lowest common denominator. It's a lot like bands like Nickelback and Godsmack. Very simple music for simple people. That in no way is saying it's bad music or the musicians aren't talented but there isn't anything unique about their music. That is how I feel about BMC...

What I did for beer today

Cold crashing my Boozy Cow (loosely based on Spotted Cow but more alcohol). Will keg tonight or tomorrow.

    2nd fermentation or not?

Cold crash for 24-48 hours had worked out really well for me

    Salts...when to add

I just started making my own profile with distilled using both Bru n Water and Beersmith. I make one water for mash and another for the sparge. Made my best beers since doing it this way.

    Full 5 gallon boiling

Yes. Any brewing software such as Beersmith has a tool where you can calculate boiloff. The amount of boiloff depends on the temperature outside and out rigorous your boil is. I believe the default setting is 1.25 gal an hour. I do 5 gallon batches and have an 8 gal kettle and I've been...

What I did for beer today

Brewed a Cream Ale loosely based on a Spotted Cow clone. Never used Saaz hops before, but the hydro sample was pretty good.

    Texas Brewing Inc

The closet Homebrew store to me is over 1 hour away so I used Northern Brewer for most of my supplies bit started seeing a decline in my past few orders. A local head Brewer suggested Texas Brewing Inc. Ordered Sunday afternoon and was impressed by the option that they crush small amounts...

What I did for beer today

Made a starter for a Cream Ale and convinced my wife I need another keg by way of her having try my Maris Otter Amarillo SMaSH.

Where to eat /drink in Ashville NC

Green Man and Wicked Weed are great breweries right downtown. Asheville Pizza and Brewing is pretty solid as well. Tupelo Honey is a good breakfast place downtown as well. Not a brewery type place but great southern food. Highland has a good tour and is the brewery that started the...

    Bell’s Two Hearted Ale...meh

Two Hearted is definitely one of my go to beers and has been since I was introduced to craft beer in 2008. To me, Bells and Two Hearted are one of the originals, up there with Sierra Nevada, New Belgium, and Sam Adams. The fact that I get a fairly fresh bottle or on draft and the flavor...

    Stout ready to bittle?

I always keep my Stouts fermenting for 4 weeks. I find it had a much cleaner flavor profile then only 2 weeks.

    Average age of home brewers......

36 try to brew 5 gallons every 4 weeks.

What is your ratio of keepers vs dumpers?

Brewed 53 batches. Only threw out one when I was trying to make A holiday ale and drank a bit too much and added too much spices. It it forever known as Ham Beer since that is what it tasted like. I have 4 go to recipes where I rotate with new ones. For example House Pale, New Recipe...

What I did for beer today

Poured my first pint from my keg system. Needs a bit more time but overall very happy. Was a Maris Otter Amarillo SMaSH with London 1318. Color is much lighter than pic shows.

    Bottled vs Kegged..

I've always bottled but I will be kegging my first batch a little later today. There are some initial startup costs (keezer, keg, CO2 tank, regulator) but it will be much easier than cleaning and sanitizing bottles. Building a keezer is super easy and pretty cheap. However I will have...

The craft beer bubble is busting.

Thought this would add to the discussion. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2019/04/02/beer-sales-stay-flat-craft-beer-grows-share-114-b-us-market/3341312002/

Is this yeast so slow? Or something else?

Be patient. I've had beers that have stalled 48 hours then fermented out right on time. Don't worry.

    11 days in

My first few beers were 2 weeks and then in had gushers so went to 4 weeks. Now it's 3 weeks unless I'm dry hopping then it is 4 weeks. I have found that 3-4 weeks results in a cleaner beer unless it's a big one.
