Last Call- Any interest in a UP brewday?

I will most likely show up (more like 99% sure I will). I won't be brewing though. Planning a camping trip in the Nicolet Forest that weekend, somewhere between Florence and Eagle River, so I'll be probably only 10-15 miles from Iron River down on WI-139. Be camping with a friend or 2, so...

    Appleton, WI

Hi Tyler. Greetings from just slightly over 2 hours away in MI. I go to that area once in awhile. Have some friends there and always seem to stop at the Stone Cellar every time I'm there (love that place). Been brewing for years now myself.

    Cheers from Michigan's Upper Peninsula!

Tiber, if you used to bar tend at the KBC I'm sure I've seen you working there, and think we once talked briefly about brewing. I could be wrong, but I know I talked about brewing with a few there before.

    Cheers from Michigan's Upper Peninsula!

Haha. Oh boy indeed. They have some good beer. When I go back up to Houghton to visit, I always try to stop in the KBC for a cold one.

Last Call- Any interest in a UP brewday?

Oh yeah? Cool. Should meet up for a brew (or homebrew) sometime.

    Today's recipe!

I've only made two batches of cheese myself. Both were 1 pound, using store bought gallon milk. The first one turned out pretty good. The second has been in wax for over a year now. I might have to try a Feta batch someday.

Last Call- Any interest in a UP brewday?

Yooper, I'd be interested in a brew day, or at least a showing up to a brew day. About a 45 min drive, so not too far away. Always looking forward to meeting UP brewers. From here, just met lschiavo so far.

    Hello to all from Michigan

Hi Gopher40. Greetings from the UP. I know a few people in Rockford, but you're one of the first brewers I've met from there. Never used that kit (all grain brewer here), but sounds good.

    Another female homebrewer

Hi Mermaid, welcome. Always nice to meet a beer snob, like myself :rockin: YooperBrew, I know in traditional Finnish culture, for example, the women would brew Sahti olutta, and were the best at making it. I haven't had an opportunity to try traditionally made Sahti (nor have I attempted...

Timber, Ah, a fellow Copper Country resident. I'm originally from up that way originally myself.

    Cheers from Michigan's Upper Peninsula!

Hi Timber. Greetings from the UP as well. The southern UP, Iron Mountain area. Been brewing for about 7-8 years now, but not a pro yet. I've lost count on the number of batches brewed, but still try to come up with something new each time.

    Hello from Wisconsin!!

Hi, like Yooperbrew, I thought I'd jump in and say hello from the MI/WI border NE WI area. Been brewing for about 7-8 years now.

    Beermaking is......

A lot of work at times, a learning adventure with each new batch brewed, but well worth it once that batch is ready!

    Smell my fingers!

My vote would be for an over hopped IPA. :mug:

Wild hop score in SW MI

I had a poor year for hops. The cascade and centennial I planted this spring never grew more than a foot tall. Well, actually the centennial never grew. The wild hops growing in three locations nearby Houghton all had low yields this year too. The UP did have a very cold summer, especially...

Wild hop score in SW MI

I tried to PM you back, but no space. I'd be willing to drive there to pick a few. Just a half hour's drive away.

    2009 Hop garden picture thread.

wfeddern, my hops look just like yours, with the burrs just starting very small like that. My hops are growing in the U.P. of Mich, so quite a bit further north than yours. Last year it was mid Sept before I could pick them.

My hops, taken from on Sunday. There's a lot of other plants growing nearby the base and the bines are growing about 5 feet into the tree above the rope, which is 10 feet tall. They were never trained before this year, so I wasn't sure how well they'd grow, but are doing quite well.

Hops growing. Taken 7-5-09. About 5 feet above the 10ft rope, growing up into the tree above.

    First year cascades cones!

Must be nice. My first year cascades are only about 1.5 ft tall.
