Tiber, if you used to bar tend at the KBC I'm sure I've seen you working there, and think we once talked briefly about brewing. I could be wrong, but I know I talked about brewing with a few there before.

Haha. Oh boy indeed. They have some good beer. When I go back up to Houghton to visit, I always try to stop in the KBC for a cold one.

I've only made two batches of cheese myself. Both were 1 pound, using store bought gallon milk. The first one turned out pretty good. The second has been in wax for over a year now. I might have to try a Feta batch someday.

Yooper, I'd be interested in a brew day, or at least a showing up to a brew day. About a 45 min drive, so not too far away. Always looking forward to meeting UP brewers. From here, just met lschiavo so far.

A lot of work at times, a learning adventure with each new batch brewed, but well worth it once that batch is ready!

I had a poor year for hops. The cascade and centennial I planted this spring never grew more than a foot tall. Well, actually the centennial never grew. The wild hops growing in three locations nearby Houghton all had low yields this year too. The UP did have a very cold summer, especially...

wfeddern, my hops look just like yours, with the burrs just starting very small like that. My hops are growing in the U.P. of Mich, so quite a bit further north than yours. Last year it was mid Sept before I could pick them.

My hops, taken from on Sunday. There's a lot of other plants growing nearby the base and the bines are growing about 5 feet into the tree above the rope, which is 10 feet tall. They were never trained before this year, so I wasn't sure how well they'd grow, but are doing quite well.

Must be nice. My first year cascades are only about 1.5 ft tall.
