    A Career in Brewing?

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

I agree with Drunklejon it adds some nice orange color to the head and also adds to the mouthfeel. I was thinking about leaving out the pumpkin but I am glad I didn't. This is a great recipe I would highly recommend brewing this one.

    Water displacement from grain?

The spreadsheets should probably read "Volume Needed" not preboil volume. Your preboil is simply the boil-off + batch size.

    Water displacement from grain?

Your right on the money now. I used a 9 gallon pot for quite a while, now I have a keggle. I like to keep things simple so when I wanted to do a bigger beer I would just change the batch size to what I could fit in my pot. Never bothered me to make 4 gallons instead of 5. If you do want to...

    Water displacement from grain?

Check out the spreadsheets on the link below. I use the google docs version and as you get your system dialed in you can adjust the absorption. I squeeze the bag a lot and have the absorption set to .05 gallons per pound. Should probably use the default and adjust from there. As far as mash...

    Pouring a Patiersbier

How long have they been in the fridge? Sometimes being refrigerated for awhile helps to set the carbonation into the beer.

    BIAB problem

From what I understand there really isn't much if anything to convert in pumpkin. The one I did was based on the below recipe and others who BIAB in the thread steeped the pumpkin and had good results. Next year I am steeping it. I spilled quite a bit of wort lifting the bag out and I am...

    BIAB problem

I just did a pumpkin BIAB this past weekend and I wouldn't put the pumpkin in the mash at all. Just steep the pumpkin in a 5 gallon paint strainer bag until you hit your strike temperature. Then take it out and add your grains in your regular bag like you usually do with your setup. The wort...

call me crazy!!! bottle to keg

I tried adding sugar to that Saison first, just be ready to cap it. When I added sugar to the bottle it foamed up.

call me crazy!!! bottle to keg

I re-bottled a Saison once and got away with it. :p Figured what the hell I didn't like it undercarbed so what was the worst that could happen. If you attempt this I would maybe pour them into a bottling bucket then siphon to the keg. I poured really slow so I didn't splash I think that...

Cocoa powder - how long in primary?

I've only done one beer with cocoa powder and had a lot of sediment in the bottles. I would rack it to a secondary only to try and reduce the sediment. I don't ever secondary anything but probably would if using powder again. Hope it comes out great I am going to be brewing this recipe maybe...

Ellie's brown clone, IBUS? and that flavor of green beer questions!

I have played with some of those recipes in Brewtarget and I don't think the hops scaled down correctly in the recipes. I wonder if they are grams instead of ounces. 13 grams would be close to .5 oz.

    First BIAB

I use the spreadsheet below and it has been very accurate since I dialed it in. My absorption is set down to .05 but I squeeze the bag. Get a pair of PVC gloves from Harbor Freight or Home Depot and you can use a bit less water. I have a keggle now but was using a 9 gallon pot and would...

    Calculators

I use the Google docs version on this page. Dialed in the absorption and it's right on the money every time. Really simple. http://www.homebrewfinds.com/2012/03/start-all-grain-brewing-for-4-water.html
