Krausen pushed the top off airlock

This morning for the first time, 10 batches, I woke up to the Krausen overflowing my fermentation bucket from the airlock. Do I need worry about any infection since it was somewhat exposed overnight. I assume it was flowing the entire time and still was when I inserted a sanitized blow off...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing a house favorite kit from my lhbs called Robust Porter. It'll be my first porter so pretty exited. Also my first brew to bottle via the Blichmann beer gun.

Malolactic fermentation on a white kit wine

I also asked them about Oak additions and they gave a fairly comprehensive response to this too for anyone that's interested. Wine Experts Response: You can add it day 1 just prior to adding the yeast or if the batch has been fermenting for a while you can add it later on. When adding oak...

Malolactic fermentation on a white kit wine

Thank you all for your responses and it definitely aligns with the following information I recieved from the WineExpert Customer Support Team. I figured I'd share it here for anyone else to also benefit. WineExpert Response: The addition of a malolactic bacteria to wine kits should not be...

Malolactic fermentation on a white kit wine

I'm making a 2nd batch of Coastal White and thought maybe I'd like to try a malolactic fermentation. I've read that maybe this should not be done with most kits but was wondering if its possible with this Midwest supplies kit. I'm going to oak it lightly and thought also the MF would also help...

    Midwest Supplies Wine Kit

I did 4 months and letting age for a couple more in bottles. Did you do any substantial aging after bottling? Just curious what the limits are age wise and when aging this white any further doesn't give any additional advantage.

    Midwest Coastal White Wine Kit

You're welcome. I think you can get very good to even great results out of kits. They have taken some the prework out of the equation by giving you a good quality juice to start your fermentation with. Ultimately I want to do that prework myself but that's just me' some will always use kits...

    Midwest Supplies Wine Kit

Just wanted to thank everyone who had commented on my post mid last year and here are the results. Sorry though I'm not too good at following the directions exactly as I had found the article below that directed me to an extended schedule. I started my wine in August of 2012 and bottled it...

    Midwest Coastal White Wine Kit

I just made my first batch of wine with this Kit and was planning on moving to a red next then going with grapes by the end of the year but I spotted that BOGO deal and ordered 2 more kits myself. I think I'll make one batch normal and lightly oak the second batch. I started my wine in...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I purchased everything last weekend for the extract version of Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale. I have some wine to rack too so trying to decide if I want to do this today or tomorrow. Pretty excited about this Fall brew, even though I've not made it before it seems the thread below has sorted it...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Bottled my Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout clone and even green I can tell this beer is going to be fantastic! Also brewed an American Cream Ale just to have something lighter around before it gets cold again. Pretty awesome day with beer as the main topic!

    Cream Ale Ideas?

Thanks everyone for the tips and I agree with most that vanilla might be odd addition to this style. I think I'll stick with making the Cream Ale without addition to get a good feel for the profile of this beer since I've never made one before. I must say thought that the guy at the LHBS was...

    Cream Ale Ideas?

I'm making a 5 gallon batch of Cream Ale this weekend from an extract kit and looking for something interesting to add. The guy at the LHBS said he likes Vanilla but i'm not sure about it. Just wondering if anyone has any other ideas about what I might add to make this a bit different.

    Support group needed?

Hey all, thanks for the support ;) and I've done a lot of reading in the forums here over the last few months and I am pretty sure I'm only scratching the surface of this addiction. Can't wait to get back home next week to bottle my Bass clone, start my wine kit and get my Scotch Ale or Pumpkin...

    Support group needed?

I'm on vacation and all I can think about is brewing my next batch of beer and what equipment I'm going to buy to go AG, what kind of barrel I'm going to get for aging a Scottish Ale and my new wine making kit that I'm staring next week. Do I need to find some sort of addict group? :)

    Midwest Supplies Wine Kit

Thanks for the advice and info I'm quite a fanatic about sanitation so that won't be a problem. Swifty I got the white kit, figured I could have a better shot at a decent wine if I went with the white first. I do brew beer and used to making beer that is as good or better than store bought...

    Midwest Supplies Wine Kit

Wow I ordered a Wine Kit from a Groupons deal for $79 a few days ago and I just looked at the Fedex tracking, it's on the truck for delivery to my house already! I figured a couple weeks but it's going to show up today, that's pretty cool. Especially since it's my birthday today, nice...

    Old Mr. Beer Fermenters.

@Randolph I love that you mentioned those bottles. I still had some and used a couple with my kids when making root beer. They started laughing at the way it looked because it had that hard black plastic base to it and I didn't think anything about it because that's how all 2 liter bottles...

    Old Mr. Beer Fermenters.

I have on of those 6.5 gallon Mr. Beer Fermenters too! I have used it for 2 of my last 3 batches and they both turned out excellent. I don't use the spigot on it and should just seal up the opening as I usually just autoshiphon it to a bottling bucket after 3 weeks. Nice to hear that someone...
