What do advanced homebrewers ferment 10 gallon batches in?

My main fermenter is a 15 gallon Corny Keg. My backup is a Sanke.

Bayou Classic vs. Hurricane for NG

I can't tell you if there is any actual difference inside the Bayou Banjo burner. But I used one with the natural gas orifice from Williams brewing (meant for the Hurricane burner). With NG piped straight in with no regulator (just the NG orifice), and the shudder wide open, I got a nice blue...

Auto Ignition on Hurricane/Banjo Burner and the Shutter

Last bump in case anyone has any practical experience with this.

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

That's a good point as well. What I was referencing was the practice of Thiophane's or t-butyl mercaptan's being used to add the smell to natural gas, andthe high concentrations of these additives causing the copper pipes used in older installations to flake off inside the pipe and cause...

Auto Ignition on Hurricane/Banjo Burner and the Shutter

Little 12 hour bump. Surely someone has these on a stand with some sort of automatic ignition. I know it's Thanksgiving, but how many times can you watch A Christmas Story on TNT before you go check HBT?

Auto Ignition on Hurricane/Banjo Burner and the Shutter

I've been using wok burners with pretty good success. However, I've considered going back to Hurricane type burner (NG) under my MLT since the wok burners can be a little weird about the gap for the spark ignitor. My question: When I had a banjo burner before, to get the blue flame with...

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

The concern with copper for gas piping is the potential for build up (of what I can't recall) inside the tubing. My old brewstand had some copper jumpers for propane (and later NG). I asked the plumber who was running my NG line what he thought. He said with the level of relative frequency I...

Curing paint on a brewstand/General Paint discussion

With the BBQ paint, get the Rustoleum "Ultra." This is the gloss finish. The flat finish of that paint rubs off. The gloss finish does not. No problem other than minor touch ups for several years with mine.

    Confused about single tier process

You're going to want to recirculate a little bit (a few minutes) just to clear the wort. But there's no need to heat the coil for this process.

    Dual fuel burner possible?

If you have a hurricane burner/banjo burner, you can get replacement orifices to run natural gas. You just unscrew the propane orifice and screw in the natural gas one. It takes just a few minutes. In my experience, you can run straight NG into these and get a nice blue flame. On the propane...

    Warming a fermentation chamber

A dual stage temp control is the best method, but if you only have cold side control, you can put the reptile heater in there and let the cooling side fight the constant heat. I'm not recommending this (since it puts a lot of wear and tear on your cooling mechanism), but have done it in a...

    Keezer surrounded by built-in shelving

Thanks for all of the compliments. But to be clear, I didn't build that. We have a good cabinet guy. I can take credit for the original drawing in MS Paint. The rest of the praise should be directed at the professionals that built it.

    Keezer surrounded by built-in shelving

If you go back to the built in route, I had good luck (with the wife) with a summit built in. The cabinets were built around it. I pitched it as a buffet. :)

    Fermenters

The 15.5 gallon kegs are a good intermediate step if you don't need to harvest yeast without some work. I have a 15.5 gallon corny with the diptube cut and a 15.5 gallon sanke with the spear pulled and kit installed. Both work great, but I prefer the corny. Transfers are easy with some beer...

    Makeshift Sight Glass

Since all I'm really looking for is chunks of grain and air bubbles (end of lauter), this (magnetic LED flashlight) works pretty well.

Help with Compact 3 Tier Brewstand

Unless I missed where he said he was fly sparging, he might be batch sparging. Only one pump required.

    Gypsum Or Lactic Acid?

The acidity contributed by Acidulated malt is a little hit and miss from what I have read. With Lactic, you know it is 88% and it is easier to measure what you will need.

Have 3-tier Brew Stand Want to Wire Switch for Pump - Need Ideas

All parts are home depot sourced. Only thing I have added since then is a little stick on heat proofing on the back and sides. Just for piece of mind though. Never any heat related issues.
