So you built your MLT huh? . .

I used 3/4" copper pipe to make a small manifold. I've had one stuck sparge, but I think it was due to my slot position (on the side rather than on the bottom) and a VERY heavy grain bill. I'll be moving from a 5g igloo cooler to a 10g soon for this very reason. I didn't solder it together or...

Beer Gyser might have expunged too much yeast?

I'd keep it and give it a shot; you don't want to throw it away. I had one batch of beer spray out like that on me (I think it was a Roggenbier if I remember right) because the airlock got plugged by a tiny little bit of hop debris that didn't get whirlpooled out + a very vigorous krausen...

can I figure out an approximate final ABV ?

    1.040 initial minus 1.014 * 131 = approximately 3.4% ABV.

How do you lift your carboy out of your chest freezer?

With a plastic carboy (such as a better bottle) + one of these bad boys, it's pretty easy. The hauler gives you two handles that make the job a breeze.

    Significantly lower OG?

Another note, I've always read that it's a pretty bad idea to squeeze the grain bag because you can introduce tannins and whatnot into the beer. Personally, I'd skip that step.

Cool; I don't recognize your name, but I'm terrible with names as it is. Aaron and I have been brewing together a lot lately; he did his first all-grain batch on my system last Sunday and my mash tun was draining at about 1gal/20m. It sucked. While it was draining (post batch-sparging) we...

    (Austin, TX) Austin Homebrew's Grand Re-Opening Party 03/11, 12:00-17:00

Oh durr. I'm an idiot. Sorry about that -- I wasn't paying attention well enough, there. Unfortunately, it's too late for me to edit the title (tried). Can a moderator fix that?

If you brew in the USA, you've probably heard of 'em. They just opened up a new store a couple of weeks ago and they're having a parking-lot party with free beer, food, and music. http://www.austinhomebrew.com/index.php Music: New Austin Polka Band, The Happy Campers, and The Little Morts...

Hello folks. First off, I want to thank you guys for being such an awesome resource. I've browsed your site for a long time and it's always been extremely helpful. I don't think my brewing abilities would be where they are today if it weren't for this site. I've learned a ton here, so I...
