When I replaced my melted cable connectors with new ones from Home Depot, they lasted 4 brews. The Brewie replacement cables look sturdier and have silicone sleeves but due to the high temperature in this area, this may still not be good enough. I did the fan upgrade and it is fairly easy. The...

It is a 15 amp outlet. Not really sure how old the wiring is. The house was build in the 50s but at least the breaker box is newer.

A quick update on my freeze: this may have nothing to do with the Brewie+ but might rather be an issue of the power outlet is was plugged in. I had pretty much constant freezes the day after my brew. I tried to do a full clean and the Brewie would freeze even just sitting idle on the start...

No, the water level was OK before the boil. It could have been the higher gravity wort. I also used delayed hopping for the first time. It was set to 10 minutes. I don't know what the temp was when it boiled over. Sorry to hear about your flooding issues!

Yes, I have a Brewie+. I was not in developer mode when the freeze and the boil over happened, it happened during a normal brew cycle. I unplugged it (power button was not responsive) and it tried to resume the brew afterwards, but while I had only minutes left in the boil, it looked like it...

Today's brew proved that my previous scorching issues were not grain basket related. 16.5 lbs of grain, stirred twice, once during mash-in and another time during sparging. No signs of scorching. 1.070 O.G. (no rice hulls). With the expected F.G., this will be a >8% beer (Morebeer Belgian...

Another super smooth brew day today. I brewed with the basket and had no scorching issues. I only stirred during mash-in and twice during sparging. Efficiency was 74% with 11.75 lbs of malt. I think HarkinBanks' hypothesis that my excessive stirring caused the scorching is, while...

My hands-on time is about one hour but I am not using the Brewie for chilling. This includes: - milling the grains, loading up the Brewie and pressing the Brew button (10 mins) - moving chilling water, sanitizing and setting up my chilling system (20 mins) - draining and chilling the wort (10...

Honestly, I have no idea. I don't think there is a whole lot of difference in flow between the two mesh sizes. HarkinBanks had an experience where over-eager stirring caused air pockets which then caused scorching. I definitely did a lot of stirring on the brew where I had the burn in. Others...

I had a super smooth brew day today. I used the bags instead of the basket and had no issues with burn in on the mash tun, so it is a basket problem, or rather, as HarkinBanks suggested, related to how I use the basket (too much stirring). Next brew will be with the basket again with minimal...

I have used rice hulls with the Brewie bags and got pretty good results. The basket is just easier to stir and clean. If I get it to work I definitely prefer it over the bags. I did not use rice hulls in the last brew with the basket.

I saw no caking on the bottom of the basket. Yeah, I think the beer is ruined, I will let it ferment though for a week and then taste it. If I can still taste the burn it will be dumped. I will brew with the bags next to rule out a Brewie problem.

Good point! I did the extra stirring to remedy the problem but may have caused the opposite.

Thank you for your ideas! I was using the false bottom. My grain basket is 400 micron and my mill spacing has not changed. I agree that it has probably to do with low flow underneath the basket and therefore that area is getting scorched. I just don’t know how to improve the flow other than...

Is anyone else getting extreme burn in on the mash tun side with the grain basket? I was stirring a lot today and it still burnt in like crazy. I can even taste it a bit in the wort right now but it has not boiled yet. I am not 100% sure it is related to the basket, I have to do a brew with the...

Thank you all for all the help! I am trying myself on the fan solution. In addition to the silver insulation, do I cut a hole in the silicone sheet underneath as well? Thanks!

Thank you this helps! I need to put new crimp connections on my short wire.

I stand corrected: what crumbled away was a piece of melted silicone, the terminal below is still intact. Does anyone have a good picture of the wiring to the thermal switch and the heating element? Thanks!
