What does 2 row mean when you hear the term 2 row malt?

That was just my way of stating that the taste buds of a 10 year old are not terribly discerning and cannot be trusted. Obviously Red Dog is not (or was not) actually what I experienced as a child.

What does 2 row mean when you hear the term 2 row malt?

I remember Red Dog being the most bitter, intense thing I'd ever had at the age of 10. When I was 18, I thought the same of Moosehead and Fat Tire. Then, I found real craft beer. Your taste buds change a lot as you grow.

When to start brewing your Christmas beer?

I brewed my 10% RIS in February, just a couple of months left to age. I've tasted a few bottles and it's decent, but it feels kind of thin. For some reason the temp in my mashtun kept dropping a bit during the mash so that's probably what it was. I maxed out the 10 gallon pretty much so that...

    fermentation temp control

That's it! Thanks. Nice, I will keep that in mind in case the other stuff doesn't work

    fermentation temp control

It isn't fermwrap, I think it might have been like an amphibian aquarium heater or something. If nothing comes up, that fermwrap could work. Thanks

    fermentation temp control

So I have a question. Now that it's getting colder, and I wanted to make a fermentation chamber in the near future, I thought I might just get a two stage temp controller and make something to heat the carboy. I saw somewhere on here that somebody bought some sort of wrap (it seemed like a bunch...

Awesome thanks. I will try that out and then start looking into Bru'n

    New to water chemistry

I usually just use bottled water for my beers because I haven't been able to get the water tested, and the water chemistry here probably changes pretty heavily in the winter. I started thinking I should probably just use DI water and then build up, but I've seen so many different profiles in the...

Yeah, that's the feeling I got. Thanks!

    cheap chest freezer

I figured I would ask here since I have been searching craigslist for such a long time with no luck. I am trying to move towards a fermentation chamber and I want to find a cheap chest freezer. Searching on craigslist has been less than successful because most people I see put up a 4 year old...

    Chili pepper chocolate stout

There was the 11.11.11 Stone Vertical Epic that was brewed with Hatch chile. That was the only good chile beer I've ever had (note: I'm using the correct spelling of chile :D). It's delicious, though. Here's the recipe straight from Stone: http://www.stonebrewing.com/epic/111111recipe.pdf

Phone App for Detailed Brew-Day Notes?

Beersmith has an Android app that is great, I use it all the time. It's called Beersmith 2. I'm sure they have an iPhone version as well, if that's what you need. It's great as well because you can import stuff from the PC version to the phone version through the cloud implementation.

Trying to figure an approach for my new fermentation chamber

Could you explain this a little more to me. How does the heat tape work? With a two stage STC-1000, you can set one to run at serving temp, and the heat tape heats the fermenter and you have another temp probe in/on the fermenter and that maintains the fermenting temp?

    Fermentation chamber

Would something like that be big enough to hold a 6.5 gallon carboy with airlock? The dimensions seem like it might just barely fit. Thanks for all the info guys! I talked with my leasing office (they have a ton of ridiculous rules, one of them being no additional appliances like chest...

Is there any Value in Secondary Fermenting?

I have two 6 gallon glass carboys and love them over plastic. I get the worry some people have about breaking the glass but I still say glass is better. I had a 5 gallon carboy as well for a secondary but it broke in the long moving trip across the country. I haven't had the need for it yet, as...

Do you happen to know the size in cubic feet?

    Fermentation chamber

That's good to know, I may just have to try and figure out a way to get a chest freezer in the apartment haha. I really need something to maintain fermentation temps, especially this summer in New Jersey.

    Fermentation chamber

Thanks for the info guys. I want a chest freezer but I don't have room in my apartment right now. I think for now a wine cooler would be good so I can keep the footprint to a minimum and the one I was looking at goes down to the mid forties. I don't really lager though. My question is, would...

    Fermentation chamber

So I was really thinking it is time to try and work out a fermentation chamber for my beers. I'd been scouring craigslist in my area for chest freezers I could convert, then I thought maybe something like a wine cooler would work. I mean, if you get a big enough one that can fit a carboy, why...
