how much time do I realistically need for my starter

I almost forgot. My yeast packs are different than I thought. Two are good until March 22 2018. Two are expired as of October 14 2017. And my oldest two are expired as of March 3 2017! Guess I didn't brew nearly enough last year

how much time do I realistically need for my starter

Well I decided to go for it and make a 4l starter using all the yeast packs I have. It's cooling in the sink now Gonna give it two days to finish. That should be about done by the time my brew is done. I may pitch the whole thing or I may wait overnight to let it settle some and pitch around...

    Sanke Fermenter Using Keg Coupler?

I ferment in sanke's and use the 2" triclamp based kits. the biggest reason I use the triclamp is ease of use. it's trivially easy to put on, remove, clean, etc. it also has a thermowell for temp control and an adjustable racking cane. this means I can go from fermentation to keg/secondary...

    DIY conical chilling(temp control)

The cooling jackets from gotta-brew are awesome! I just got 2 more, so I can now run 4 fermenters on my glycol system at once. They are a very easy and simple solution to this problem. the only caution I would have is that they are very pressure sensitive. They say right on the site that you...

how much time do I realistically need for my starter

I am planning to do a brew on saturday afternoon.. I usually would have built my starter on tuesday, but as you can guess I missed that and am considering if I have enough time to build a starter tonight and still have it done and cold-crashed by saturday evening. I may not technically need to...

First Brew Results - Delicious but Cloudy

I believe Irish Moss and or whirfloc only help really of you're doing a full or partial mash. I don't know that they will help much with extract. I wouldn't dissuade you from trying them, who knows they may actually help. But time definitely helps for sure.

What came in the mail for you today?

These are conversion parts to turn my chugger pumps into riptide pumps. Basically right now I use two standard steel head chugger pumps, each with Blichmann valves. It's basically the same thing as the riptide with the exception I can't really easily take them apart to clean. Plus I wanted to...

To wrap a Coil on the outside or to coil inside my fermenter?

I wrapped one of my sankey's in copper and am using cool-zone jackets for the rest. if I were to have 3inch or 4inch triclover ports put on any of my sankey's I'd go with an inside stainless coil. (pretty darn hard to get a decent coil in through a standard sankey opening.) There are...

    Mashing with chuggers

I typically use a small stainless steel colander for dispersing sparge water while fly sparging. As others have noted having the grain bed covered in a couple inches of water is far more important.

    Planning for the Brew Year

I like that idea. Part of my planning confusion was how to plan on fermenter allocation and keg allocation. Some brews take longer than others.. a spread sheet and or a gantt chart should help with that
