1 gallon Smores stout what do you think

maybe some marshmallows? pretty sure they would ferment all the way, and may not contribute any marshmallow flavor tho.. hwk-i-st8's suggestion of adding lactose may be a better idea..

    DIY counterflow chiller

Wow. Cool. Did you pressurize the Shell or the internal tube or both?

    DIY Glycol Chiller

I have a similar question myself. I've not found a definitive answer yet. I suppose it depends on what you want to do with it, and how much beer you're trying to control. I use a draft line glycol chiller for my setup, and have it set to 19F -- I've read many places that you want to be about...

Best heater for 7 gallon conical?

I use heat-tape/flex-watt type heat, wrapped around my fermentor -- though I don't have a conical.. so maybe not 100% applicable to you.. http://www.gotta-brew.com/products/heater-60-watt.html https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DOZGLYM/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 gives a really nice even heat...

Did I mess it up? Ball lock keg lids

the corrosion? on the top of the lid/around the PRV isn't too concerning.. it's the the tarnish on the inside lip of the lid seal and on the bottom -- which are exposed to beer.. I'd hate to have little nasties hiding in my lids, quietly ruining entire kegs of beer.. I'm intending to lager/age...

Did I mess it up? Ball lock keg lids

Ok. I'm lazy. A fairly long time ago I was washing and sanitizing my kegs. I have several so I tend to do them in batches. One thing led to another and I ended up leaving my keg lids orings poppets and prvs in a bucket of starsan. Fast forward 6 or 8 months and all the starsan has evaporated...

Pull Through (dimpled) TC Ferrules for Soldering Prototype Stuff

I use the 1/2inch npt pull through fittings on my gas fired hlt. I've had no problems. Can't imagine the TC fittings will be any different As long as there is water over or around the fitting I doubt there is anything to worry about.

    Inkbird ITC-308 dual stage trouble

In case anyone is wondering. I ordered this particular inkbird from gotta-brew.com .. I emailed them. They shipped me a new one. No muss, no fuss. Can't speak highly enough about these folks. Very happy

    nano brewery hood range

I'm no expert, but you are always going to deal with some condensation. you may be able to alleviate it with higher CFH fans. it would be easier to suggest solutions with pics of the setup you have, and an idea about how large a batch you typically brew. as for adding more fans/etc, as you...

    Wiring STC-1000 to heating pad

easiest way to wire your stc-1000 to drive a heating pad is to make a plug-box.. that is, put the controller in a project box and wire it to a standard 15A outlet in the box.. then plug the heating pad into the plug box outlet...

    Bulk aging

I like to bulk-age my stuff in cornies. I'm no expert however, so salt to taste. * more CO2 is more better.. I definitely recommend getting additional tanks. just because co2 is so useful to have around.. I use it for moving beer around more than I thought I would when I started this hobby...

    Inkbird ITC-308 dual stage trouble

I recently got another ITC-308 dual stage controller for my glycol fermentation set up. I have 3 others on the system already and have had no real issues with them at all. This new unit I have, however, may be defective. when I hooked it up and configured it. it appeared to function...

    Ultra-budget fermentation cooling system

gotta-brew.com has very reasonable jackets for buckets/fermenters -- I've personally done both, wrap coils around my fermenter and used the gotta brew jackets -- jackets are just as effective, probbaly more so.. the only downside to the gotta brew jackets is the pressure limitation they have --...

how much time do I realistically need for my starter

No you're doing it right. I crash the starter to get it to flocc out and settle. Then I decant most of the spent beer. Then I swirl and pitch. I'm sure I lose a ton of viable if not quite as flocculant yeast, but I don't typically repitch or wash my yeast so I don't really worry about evolving...

how much time do I realistically need for my starter

Brew day went great. Starter looked ok. I could've wished to have the yeast settle a little more but I can't complain too much. Thanks again for all the advice!

    Don't Do That.

Try to build a starter. Do or do not there is no try. Lol. I made a 4l starter tonight boiling right in the flask. Attempted to add the dme to the flask through a funnel AFTER boiling my water. Dme turned into concrete immediately. Attempted to clear the blockage with a mixer rod. It got...

    DIY conical chilling(temp control)

I'd ask the gotta brew folks about what you should get. I don't have any conicals so have no practical experience to guide you with. Cooler with ice water, march or similar strength submersible pump and an inkbird should definitely get you started. I would also invest in some form of...
