    CPVC manifold

I'm by no means an expert and there is much experience in the forums but I think, generally speaking, the goal is to have nearly equal draw from all parts of the bottom. You can see my perceived solution here but it's quite possible that I overthought the whole thing. Worst-case-scenario...

    CPVC manifold

I drilled holes in mine (5/32" I believe) and am satisfied. I get tiny amounts of grain inside the manifold but it mostly rinses out without disassembly. I did retain the ability to disassemble, however, just in case.

Critique one more MLT manifold design

Just wanted to put an update on this in case someone stumbles across it. I've now done a 9 beers with OGs between 1.044 and 1.070 with this manifold. With one exception, efficiencies have been mid 80's and the exception was a BMC-ish beer with flaked corn and instant rice adjuncts (please...

11 day turn around beer... feedback/help requested!

Some may say different, but 1010 would probably not be my choice for a quick beer. I love the strain but it does seem to take a little longer to mellow. At least for me, even with controlled temps, it puts off a lot of sulpher and usually takes a couple weeks of bulk aging for the smell to...

Critique one more MLT manifold design

Thanks! I think the design has some potential, I didn't want to pull all the wort from the center of the grainbed but didn't want to completely ignore the center either so this was my answer. After thinking about it just a little bit more, I've decided I'm going to glue some of the pieces but...

Critique one more MLT manifold design

I thought I'd post the results in case someone stumbles across it sometime later with similar ideas. I didn't get any replies on this so I just went with it as-is on my first-ever all-grain batch yesterday. I ended up with 86% efficiency which was higher than I had expected and my beer came...

Critique one more MLT manifold design

Hi all, Not too long ago, I built a manifold for a 60qt Ice Cube Cooler (see here) but before my first AG brew, I scored a 10 gallong Rubbermaid round cooler and pieced together a manifild for this one as well. Does the manifold design seem appropriate? Is it too near or too far from the...

    MLT Manifold design critique

ok, so does this look about on par as far as holes and placement? Anything else I can do to improve the design?

    MLT Manifold design critique

Thanks for the input. I like the idea of doing a 10 gallon mash instead of a 5, then I can divide the mash into two 5 gallon batches, hop them differently during the boil and/or ferment with different yeasts to to make different beers. I'll take your advice and start with a slow drain/sparge...

    MLT Manifold design critique

Thank you again, I was planning on the same size holes, I read that was best somewhere along the way. I'll be happy with anything 70% and up and am more interested in consistency than squeezing the last drop of sugar from the grain but I have a sneaking suspicion that it's going to take a good...

    MLT Manifold design critique

I would guess with batch sparging it should be a non-issue but I am planning to fly sparge so I'm trying to eliminate the obvious problems before I do my first all-grain run.

    MLT Manifold design critique

Thank you WesleyS, it does help. How do you have the bottom slotted or drilled? What kind of efficiency are you getting?

    MLT Manifold design critique

ok, here it is reworked to 2-1/2" from the outside walls and approximately the same distance between the individual rails, better, worse or the same ?
  14. M

    MLT Manifold design critique

right now I'm about 1-1/2" from the center of the perimeter tubes on to the wall, how much should I move them inward? Everything is an easy fix at this point

    MLT Manifold design critique

so before I drill the holes or cut the slits in the bottom of the manifold, does it appear "correct" as far as design and distances from walls? I want to avoid channelling as much as possible and don't mind changing the design (as cpvc is cheap and I have plently left over) but I'd like to have...

    MLT Manifold design critique

I'm in the process of making the jump to all grain. I purchased a 60 qt Igloo "Ice Cube" cooler for my MLT conversion and plan to fly sparge. Below is a pic of my initial design for the manifold (minus the slots or holes in the bottom of the tubing). Ultimately, I will have a stainless valve...

How many gallons of Brandon O's Graff have been made?

Just took my first run at a batch, it's gonna be a long few weeks of waiting!! 2401 + 5 = 2406

Looking for insight on what went wrong

I do secondary some beers but they were already sour before they would have been racked, the times it happened they started off great, beer started fermenting normal, smelled great for the first several days (sniffing the satellite bottle, not lifting the lid on the primary) and then somewhere...

Looking for insight on what went wrong

Paranoid I will never be but perplexed I was! Either way, I ordered new buckets just in case it was from those and I'll give the chiller a better wipe-down each time although it was doubtfully from that. I WILL, however, continue to tape over the vents in the kitchen of this house until I have...

Looking for insight on what went wrong

Just a quick update, I'm now 3 batches into good beer. I didn't determine the exact cause but I have a decent idea. As detailed above, I super-cleaned everything, I even purchased a new no-scratch sponge and gave all the buckets a wipe-down with star-san. While doing this I noticed that all...
