    Max secondary time Q

Instead of buying a case of bottles, buy a case of beer. Drink the beer. Pour new beer into old bottle. The circle of life. Edit: Or keep an eye out on this thread: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f16/got-free-bottles-give-away-post-em-here-157575/ I got my first 100 bottles off someone...

Still alive - just tackling a HUGE DIY

Reading this thread is like watching a very good TV series. You're better off not finding out about it until it's over that way you can read/watch it all the way through instead of having to wait to see what happens next. Amazing work Jester. As someone who is dreading building a collar for a...

Digital Scale deal on Homebrew Finds/Amazon

Does it go down to hundredth of a gram or just tenth of a gram?

    Gas Chamber

It's called an airlock. You could also use Vodka. The idea is to use something that will kill bacteria in case some of the solution gets sucked back into the fermenter.

Bottles going from cold to warm

Thanks, but I'm asking if I can put them in the fridge for a week to settle the chill haze and then take them out and leave them out room temperature. Then when I'm ready to drink them, I just chill them real quickly without having to put them back in for days again?

Bottles going from cold to warm

That's not what the Coors commercials say! But seriously, thanks. That is what I was expecting/hoping. Do you have any input on whether it makes sense or not? I like the idea of leaving it in the fridge for a few days so it clears up, but if it goes back to room temperature, does it go...

Bottles going from cold to warm

This may be a newbie question, but I've been searching and can't find an answer. The base to this questions is, does beer go bad after its been in the refrigerator and you remove it so it goes back to room temperature? The reason I'm asking is because I'd like to give some friends/family...

    Primary Fermentation

Do you use clear buckets or something? I'm a newbie, but I was under the impression that only clear carboys needed to be covered from light. I thought normal white buckets blocked all harmful light?

5oz of beer per 5 gallons of corn sugar?

My advice is to not try what your title states.

Thank you for the quick response. Do you have any rough estimate as to how backed up the orders are? I placed my order on Friday.

    Midwest Supplies

This is my 3rd order from them. I usually order on a Friday and it ships on Saturday or Sunday and I receive it on Thursday, just in time to brew on Friday or Saturday. It's now Tuesday and it hasn't shipped yet, meaning there is almost no chance for it to arrive by this weekend. I saw...

    Irish moss??

Interested to hear the experts thoughts on this as well. I also found Whirlfloc tablets which are supposed to do the same thing, but seem a lot easier to use. I was planning on ordering one or the other with my next kit.

    Winemaker wants to Brew Beer!

On that note...you can also read the original version of the book for free here: http://www.howtobrew.com I read through that first and then just did a lot of browsing on here to come up with my own instruction sheet for my first batch.

    Necessary & Optional Equipment List

I'm only on my 2nd batch, but I have yet to use an airlock even though I bought them. Reading all the horror stories of explosions and lids popping off was all I needed to realize sticking a tube in the bucket and making a blow off tube was a better solution for me so I don't have to worry.

Seriously the easiest DIY ever for bottling bucket dip tube

Damn, I was at Home Depot last night and would have picked one of these up if I saw this earlier. I'll have to remember to get one of these next time I go.

    Managing fermentation temp

I was looking into doing this the other day and almost bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003C5TPF6/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 I like the fact that it isn't glass (easy to break) and that it's easy to set the temp. Has great reviews as well. The lowest setting is 68, which would...

    Question about FG being off

Thanks, I didn't know that. I figured the initial active fermentation was the most important but I didn't know that people did different stages at different temperatures. Makes sense since the initial phase probably produces a lot of it's own heat. Makes me feel a little more confident that I...
