Wow... Loks like I'm gonna change my sanitizing method!

Curtis: that works for me. About specialty grains I was thinking Chocolate, Black patent, crystal 10, crystal 60, about 3 pounds each..

I'm using the same system to ferment: salvavida 5gals bottle+stopper+airlock... Works great but yes, these are 4 gallons batches, 4.5 if you use a blowoff tube. About the sanitizer: I use a vegetable cleaner that I buy at the supermarket, it's called Biocyde... It says it's made of salts of...

Curtis: sounds good to me! I live in the city, and it seems like rappy will be part of the order so I can easily coordinate with him. By the way we could upgrade to 60 lbs 2 row, as we are 3 people willing to get about 20 lbs each... And yes it will be a nice test, as I'm curious to see what are...

About Transcargo's fees: I had checked with them, and they charge per volume, not per weight... They charge a minimum fee of 40$ if you are under 4 cubic feet, and beyond 4 CF they charge 12$/CF...

    Guate Brewing

Curtis: That would work for me but when I was thinking of the 50 lbs sack, I was thinking about sharing it... So if you still order 50 lbs, you would keep a share, right? I'm cool with 20-25 lbs... So if you're placing the order yourself I could deposit money (quetzales) if you have a bank...

    Guate Brewing

AHB doesn't seem to sell whole sacks, so you don't have any price breaks, but the flat rate shipping is pretty interesting indeed, so the tradeoff seems to be fair... I guess it would be almost the same, given that at Midwest one sack costs about 38$, but you have to add 39$ for shipping, which...

    Guate Brewing

Curtis: I was thinking about getting a good bulk of base malt, plus maybe a couple specialty grains in a more moderate quantity (medium caramel + chocolate maybe)... I was actually checking the possibility of getting a 50 pounds sack of base malt... I think pilsen malt would do the job too for...

Thanks Pacaya for the recipe inputs! I'll try something like that!

    Guate Brewing

Thanks for those inputs Pacaya, next time I'll try a batch with 100% DC LME plus a little sugar, to see the results, maybe with an IPA...

    Guate Brewing

About the DC LME: my first batch using this product is actually fermenting right know, so I'll tell later about the final results. I used 4.5 lbs of it, along with 3.5 lbs of home malted barley, 1/2 lbs home roasted kinda amber malt, 1/2 lbs home roasted kinda pale chocolate, and 1/2 lbs panela...

Curtis: when/where/how are you planning to order? I might be interested to order something... Let me know!

That should work for me, either the 7th or 14th!

Sorry guys for not looking at the older posts! But thanks a lot for the information. I'll tried to contact them.

    Guate Brewing

Yeah, I'm going with aerocasillas for hops and yeast and other lightweight stuff, but given the price I won't use it for grains... So I was thinking of transcargo to ship a larger amount of grains, as some of you guys have mentionned it several times, and it seems more convenient for heavy...

    Guate Brewing

Hi guys, quick question: has anyone tried to import grains through this transcargo thing?

    Guate Brewing

You where right Pacaya, as the smell was quite strong and somehow unpleasant at the begining, it's getting more and more subtle and it definitely has something of banana!

    Guate Brewing

Hi guys, thanks for the inputs. I didn't use any finings in this boil, but I'm actually not against a cloudy beer, at least for this wheat beer. I had a nice hot break with a nice foamy head and some greyish material that I scumed. Then I hade a lot of coagulated material at cooling, that I...

    Guate Brewing

Hi all, well that sounds great, pacaya, to have some positive comments coming from a profesional sommelier!! Also that seems to be a good idea to get together in september! On my side I've been doing some "experiments"... First I've managed malting some grain: Something like 8lbs barley (base...
