    Yet another carbonation question...

Yeah..i have a random variety of bottle uses..although Anchor was one of them. Just cracked a bottle (new belgium) and barely any carbonation. Over the weekend I had one out of 6 that was carbonated??? I guess i should start keeping track of the bottles that are carbonated. This is really...

    Yet another carbonation question...

Yeah, we were camping in the mountains..but not much elevation difference from where we live. I did wonder if the 2 hr drive in the cooler shook up a bit?? As far as the sugar, i did not stir. I added about halfway thru racking the brew.

    Yet another carbonation question...

Sorry..i've read a dozen or so threads on this but have not found what i'm looking for. Anyway, i brewed my first batch (american pale extract kit) about 2 months back..fermentor for 2.5-3 weeks, bottled (boiled the priming sugar and let cool and added but did not stir) and let sit at room temp...

    Beginner...with soft water question

So I was able to get the temperature strip on the bucket down to 68 deg by placing the bucket on the floor. The bubble rate slowed significantly..not sure if its coincidence or not? Sure is smelling good out of the airlock!! This patience thing is tough, especially on the first batch...

Thanks..would it be too late to attempt to control the temperature now? It's been about 36 hrs.

    Beginner...with soft water question

One other question...The temperature strip on the outside of my fermenting bucket is holding at 72. I -used a White Lab California Ale yeast WLP001 which states to keep at 70-75 until fermentation begins, but does not state what temperature to keep after that. Will I be fine at 72 for the...

    After a 1year, i'm taking the plunge.

So does the extract (remaining half) not have to boil?

    After a 1year, i'm taking the plunge.

Quick question about top up water..If using tap water should this be boiled first? Then cooled before adding to hot wort? I really like the idea of having 2 gallons in the freezer..I am assuming you are not "freezing" the gallons, but rather cooling down close to freezing?

    Beginner...with soft water question

Well..first batch is in the bucket! Had one minor hiccup when I realized after 15 hrs that I forgot to add water to the air lock:drunk: Added a little vodka and instantly seeing a bubble every second or so...so I am guessing that everything is OK.

    Soft, acidic, well water questions

Thanks for the replies!! I think I won't concern myself with the water on the first batch and focus instead on getting everything else right. Maybe after I get my feet wet, I'll have my water analyzed.

    Soft, acidic, well water questions

Sorry this is posted elsewhere...wasn't sure how to delete the one. A beginner here getting ready to attempt my first brew. I posted this same topic in the beginner section with no luck (likely due to my lack of info), so i figured i clarify a little and add it here. Anyway, I have well water...

So i am about to attempt my first home brew and had some questions regarding water chemistry. I have searched and searched this topic and became way more confused as a result...overwhelmed with calculators, etc. Anyway, I have well water that is naturally very soft. My total alkalinity (as...
