    Is this normal?

Since I've started brewing again (after being away from the hobby for more than a handful of years), I made 7 different beers. Jan 30 AHS Amercian Amber extract - drinking Feb 6 AHS London Pub Ale - mini mash and extract - drinking Feb 21 EdWort's BCB Haus Pale Ale - first AG - kegged and...

Ward Labs Analysis - Cedar Park, TX

Saccharomyces: Thanks for the reply. And thanks for the suggestions concerning our water. I knew that Cedar Park gets its water from Lake Travis, but I didn't realize Pflugerville does, too. I like your approach to treating your water. I think learning how to adjust our local water to make...

Ward Labs Analysis - Cedar Park, TX

Thanks for the detailed answer. I realized after I posted the results from Ward that I should probably spend some time looking for some sort of how-to or primer; I completely missed the one in the stickies. I suspected the hard is pretty hard here. In fact, that's one reason we chose to go...

Ward Labs Analysis - Cedar Park, TX

I just received my test results from Ward Labs. Before I share the results and ask for help in interpreting them, let me say, I was very happy with the turn around time. I ordered the box and bottle last weekend, and received them on Wednesday. Took the bottle to the PO on Friday ("You can...

    First keg day questions!

What's "room temperature?" in the winter here in Central Texas room temperature in 68 to 70. In the summer we keep the house in the 77 to 79 range. Is that too warm for room temperature aging?

What measurements/notes during first all grain

Thanks for all the replies. I'm pretty anal-retentive about measurements anyway (the result my personality and the bulk of my Army career was spent in the calibration of test equipment including physical measurements like temperature), and I am used to the need for precise weight measurements in...

What measurements/notes during first all grain

I'm going to do my first all grain on Monday. I'm making Ed Wort's Haus Pale Ale. What notes and measurements I should take during the process? I would like to document the session so I can correct and/or improve future all grains recipes. What do you suggest? -peabody304

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

I, like many here, will be making this as my first all grain batch and I'm brewing this weekend. I picked up the ingredients today, and the Cascade hops at AHS have a lower alpha acid rating than the ones in the recipe. Instead of the 6.6% Ed Wort used, these are 5%. I found a thread...

Great advice. I hope to do my first all grain either this weekend or next. And, I plan on making the Bee Cave Haus Pale. -peabody304

Secondary in corny with small rust spot

I have a pin lock corny that I would like to use for a secondary. However, when I was cleaning it, I saw a small rust spot on the bottom. I've cleaned it up a bit with Bar Keepers Friend and a green scouring pad, and it looks OK. I'll probably clean it a little more. Would you use this corny...

    Returning to brewing in Austin

My interest in brewing dates back to my high school days. Somewhere in the house I have books from the mid 70s. After retiring from the Army in '93, and finding homebrewing on the Internet, (the earliest evidence I can find of me on the 'net is on the HBD in 1993) I was finally able to...
