The most historic result in WC history, and I missed it due to work :( Can I assume that chants of "It's like watching Brazil" will have a new meaning in the future? ;) I'm actually glad they were finally found out to put to bed the myth that they are still a great side. I had always suspected...

If Brazil win this WC, it will be due to the homer refereeing. They are NOT the Brazil of the 70's. .........There, I said it.

    I love puns!

In that case! A washing powder salesman was having a hard time, and had made no sales for two months. He could not feed his kids and his wife left him. He decided to commit suicide by jumping off a tall building. Newspapers reported that he hit the ground with a thickening sud. Pun...

It is true that sadly, America sometimes gets it's priorities wrong.

I had a cricket that size jump up my trouser leg in South Africa. It was how I learned to dance. :rockin:

Those water breaks have me a little worried. While I see the sense behind the idea in that climate, it poses a potential threat of a future game of 4 quarters and beer commercials coming out the arse.

Pretty good game this. France have surrendered territory to the Germans, but are now offering some small resistance. ;)

"Growing the sport" is an interesting phrase that brings gardening to mind. I am not a gardener at all. All I ever do is plant something and see if it grows. If it likes it's surroundings, and can survive my ham-fisted gardening methods, then, and only then, do I really begin to admire it and...

Would you rather watch Soccer or Baseball?

From the result of this poll, can I assume that baseball is not the "American pastime" but merely the "American pastime of baseball fans"? ;)

Re the Oberman thing. I have a better idea, why not just leave soccer alone to develop in the USA on it's own without silly cherry picking over which aspects of the game are American enough and which are not? It will still have a uniquely American identity, as it already does.

I'm not gonna knock your ideas, we all have them. However, there is a way to stop the flopping, and it is already in place. We just need referees to grow a pair and call on what they see.

This flies in the face of previous threads in which people claim that 'Murican gals is purdiest!

Diving and refereeing decisions will always be debatable, but that late penalty decision was far from a scandal and is being over-blown. It was really a call, good or bad that is made in many games.

dodgy call or good call, the time is irrelevant. Was soft, but you gotta be careful in the penalty box. I'm biased though. :) Always want Holland to do well.
