Help! Is something wrong with my beer?

So I recently brewed a 10 gallon batch of an APA and split the 10 gallons into two fermenters. I used Safale SAF-04 on one and Wyeast 1968 on the other. The SAF-04 was cloudier when I transferred to secondary to dry hop. I started cold crashing on Sunday and the 1968 has cleared up great, but...

Critique my 2nd recipe - 1st time playing with a hopstand

Sounds fair. I modified the grain bill. I'm curious as to why you think I should simplify the hop schedule. Not that I don't agree with you, I'm just curious. I'm still fairly new to this and I'm still learning. Brewer: Jay Bagley Asst Brewer: Style: American IPA TYPE: All Grain Taste...

    Equipment Failure Brew Day Fiasco

I'm not sure. If my pre-boil gravity was on, why wasn't post-boil. The only thing I can think of is that either my hydrometer was off, or my thermometer was off and that made my gravity temperature conversion off. When taking a pre-boil reading, should I let it chill?

    Equipment Failure Brew Day Fiasco

The extra degree came from my sparge water. Mash at 151, sparge at 168. It is hard to do with an immersion chiller. I'd whirlpool before chilling, but I'd worry that moving the chiller would disrupt the cone. I chill and remove the immersion chiller and then whirlpool. How do other people do it?

    Equipment Failure Brew Day Fiasco

First off let me start off by saying that this Brew Day was our 5th beer, 3rd all-grain and first 10 gallon batch. We started off the day setting up to bottle our last beer, an American Wheat Ale, and realized that the spigot on our bottling bucket was broken. We had to make a run to the LBHS...

    Cost of repairing a fridge/freezer

Awesome! The compressor runs fine, the cold control just doesn't turn off and the compressor overheats. Now to figure out which controller to get. Time to search the forum.

    Cost of repairing a fridge/freezer

I found out my vintage 1951 fridge has a bad 'cold control'. The part is no longer manufactured, does anyone know if a device like a Ranco or Johnson Controls temperature controller can take the place of it? If so I may be able to turn my fridge into a dual-purpose beer fridge/part-time...

    Thoughts on my First Recipe

I really didn't like the hop aroma that Falconer's Flight had. Before fermentation even began, my brewing buddy commented that it smelled like crap. The final product had a nice bitterness, but the crappy aroma kills the beer. Next time maybe I'll dry hop with something like simcoe.

    Polishing Sanke keg???

My keg is coming along, but every time I try to get to those ridges, creases and areas in the embossed letters I have problems. Any tips on how to really polish those hard to reach places?

First All Grain Batch - A little help

One more quick question. When draining the wort, I recycled about 3 of the 4 gallons through because it never seemed to clear. What's the best way to tell if the runnings are clear? Maybe I just need better light in my garage.

First All Grain Batch - A little help

Thanks for the replies! To answer a couple questions. I poured my mash water into my mash tun which has a SS braid and then added the grains and stirred. I also stirred when I added my sparge water.

I crushed the grains at my LHBS. Maybe I could run it through twice?

First All Grain Batch - A little help

I created my first all grain recipe in BeerSmith 2.0 and commenced brewing. It's in the fermenter now, so only time will tell how it turns out, but there are a couple of issues right off the bat. Maybe you all can help with some answers. Problem #1 - Expected 6.98 Gallons out of the Mash and...

    Thoughts on my First Recipe

I'll be brewing this in two weeks, so I figured I would post it here and get some feedback before I bite the bullet and hopefully not brew a batch of crap. I've been going back and forth on whether to go with 2 Row or Maris Otter. Also, I intend this to be a hoppy beer. Recipe Specifications...

    Cost of repairing a fridge/freezer

I have a 1951 General Electric Fridge that died this summer. I'm debating on getting it fixed because it is a classic. Does anyone have any insight into these older vintage fridges?
