Yeast Suggestion - what would you do?

This is kind of what I was thinking...thanks:mug:

Yeast Suggestion - what would you do?

Thanks....well I probably should have mentioned that I've never had a surly bender...can't get it where I live. I was drawn to the description....so I guess I don't have anything to measure it against. Do you think I could get away with 1 pack of liquid yeast rather than 2? Sent from my iPhone...

Yeast Suggestion - what would you do?

Brewing up my first Partial Mash kit this weekend which is the Surly Bender PM kit from Northern Brewer. I opted for no yeast as I have a packet of S-04 on hand. NB suggests using Wyeast 1335 British Ale II yeast. My LHBS has the Wyeast 1335 on hand but I've never used liquid yeast, made...

    What is partial mash?

Given similar fermenting conditions and temps etc..how does the flavor of a PM compare against an extract with steeping grain brew....are there noticeable differences?

Jack's Abbey Brewing springs a leak (video)

Agreed, I'm from Mass and a huge JA fan. I suppose the only positive to take fom this is that it was only the Jabby Brau and not one of their Double IPLs like Kiwi Rising or Mass rising! Still though, 3,000 gallons...UGH!

Late DME/LME addition on an IPA

I'm in Central Mass and made an extract batch outside in my driveway this past weekend - it was in the low 20's but there's something to be said about bundling up and making your own beer outside. I steeped the grains in the kitchen and boiled outside. You can do this! The only water you'll...

    US-04 and Low temps

Knowing that fermentation produces heat...meaning if I'm at 59 ambient I'll most likey be fermenting a few degrees higher than that, I suppose a better question is....is 60 degrees too low for US-04 to get started? thanks

    US-04 and Low temps

I will be brewing the NB Brickwarmer next week and this will be my first time using US-04. My process for previous brews using US-05 is to cool the wort down to 60, pitch yeast and keep at ambient of 62. Is this a safe process for US-04 as well or should I pitch a bit warmer?.....or warm up...

Anyone brewed NB Brickwarmer Holiday Red?

Cool...did you do partial boil with late addition or full boil?

Anyone brewed NB Brickwarmer Holiday Red?

Looking at this kit for my next (6th) batch. Has anyone made this one before, how did it turn out? Would you recommend it? Got some good reviews on the NB site but a lot of comments about people having blowouts which I'm attributing to differing fermentation conditions (warmer temps) and not...

    first time dry hopping

How do you get the bag out after youre done dry hopping?....Id imagine it sinks to the bottom once the hops suck up all the beer

    Dry Hop Question

Thanks guys.....forgot to mention that I'll be using pellets and a bucket for primary.

    Dry Hop Question

I brewed up an IPA last weekend that I am planning on dry hopping in primary with 2-3 oz of Cascade. In the past Ive just tossed them in but this time around I'm experimenting with filtering the hop material out to make bottling a bit easier. For dry hopping, If I place them in a hop bag and...

    Cooling wort

I've read on other threads of people freezing 1 gallon jugs of store bought water cutting away the plastic jug with a sanitized knife and dropping the ice right into the boiling wort. This would only work with partial boils though. You should check out the thread on adding ice in the General...

Adding ice to cool the wort down?

No worries, it's all good. I did read the thread but didnt see anything referenced about adding 2 gallons of near frozen/or even frozen water to 2.5 gallons of wort.... adding 1 gallon yes but not 2. Regardless, I'll experiment with this on my next brew to see where it gets me

Adding ice to cool the wort down?

Forgive me if this has already been asked. Assuming a partial boil in a 5 gallon pot. Starting with 3 gallons and then getting down to 2.5 at the end of the boil. Couldnt I just add say 2-2.5 gallons of near frozen store bought water directly to the 5 gallon pot and then use an ice bath to...

    Best use of 5 weeks

Thanks guys.....I'll be away on day 13 and 14 so looks like I'll plan on cold crashing in my garage fridge on day 10 and then bottle on day 12. Is 2 days enough to cold crash or should I skip this based on my tight window of time. I wish I brewed this one a couple weeks sooner but life got in...

    Best use of 5 weeks

For my 4th brew, I brewed up a batch of Brewers Best Summer ale this past weekend on 6/8. I'd like to take it camping with me in 5 weeks so I'm wondering....should I ferment for 3 weeks (my norm) and bottle condition for 2 weeks or should I ferment in primary for 2 weeks then bottle condition...
