    MM2, 3 - Losing set? Cranken?

I motorized my MM2 mill this past year, and spent too much time looking into motor options after reading through the vast Motorized Grain Mills: Time to show them off! thread. AAW just imports the motors from China and provides support if you have any issues. You could order the same or...

    FG from Refractometer

I don't know if those sites have updated their calculators, but a few years ago, they were all wrong except for the one from Sean Therrill. The one on BS seems pretty closely correlated now, but the others I have no idea about. Sean's was also calibrated for beer only. I have no idea how the...

    BIAB System Build Help

Propane is definitely not recommended; maybe NG, but electric recommended for indoors. I agree with Wilser. I have one of his bags (almost 4 years old and finally about ready to be replaced), a 20G Spike kettle, 3.5KW Avantco induction heater (240V), 1.8KW hot rod heat stick, all for well...

    FG from Refractometer

A lot of sediment can certainly impact the density, and thus the hydrometer reading. A refractometer measures the refractive index of light. A cloudy or non-homogeneous sample refracts light with dispersion; thus, it's not distinct. I pull samples off a port from the bottom of my fermenter...

    FG from Refractometer

I've been using the Sean Terrill calculator for years, and it's spot on, but it is dependent on your OG reading. I expect that Beersmith has just used Terrill's calculations, although I don't get the exact same answers with the same inputs. One nice thing it will do is give you your OG from...

    Why can't I find a good IPA?

There are a lot of newer IPAs, beyond just NEIPAs, that are based more on hop aroma and flavor than just bitterness. Where are you located? If you provide that info, then people in your area can suggest good local IPAs to try. I didn't really like IPAs when I started brewing several years...

    Chest freezer questions

I have a 7 CF freezer, and it easily fits my rather large 7.9G Speidel and a 7G Fermonster. I'm pretty sure it might fit 3 glass carboys, but absolutely no problem with 2. One option is if you have a 10-12G batch with 2 fermenters of the same beer. In this case, I have a thermowell in one, or...

Pin Lock Kegs - Good Deal?

It looks like the 4-pack of 23" tall pin locks are not B grade, so they may be in better shape. That would be my recommendation, assuming you can handle the 23" height. Like I said earlier, I have ball locks, which are 25 x 8.5. From a Google search, it seems that the standard for pin locks...

Pin Lock Kegs - Good Deal?

Coupon Code ZYMURGY takes an additional 10% off site wide at Keg Connection. Cheapest route is the Pin Lock B-Grade OP cited. Next option is ***SPECIAL BUY*** These pin lock kegs are the exact same as our other pin lock kegs except that they are 1 inch taller. Dimensions are: 23" tall x 9"...

5 gallon batch in 20 gallon kettle

I have a 20G Spike kettle and BIAB. I have a false bottom (steamer insert) that sits ~2.5-3" off the bottom that I got with a previous kettle. I typically do 6G batches. The biggest I have done is ~13G into the fermenter for a ~1.050 session IPA. You could get a little more with a shorter...

    First time BIAB question

Honestly, to brew 5G of a big beer like a Pliny clone, you probably need a 12G kettle, but as wilserbrewer said, don't let that discourage you or keep you from brewing. Mash with your kettle filled to the brim, and then sparge with additional water to get more like 7 instead of 6 gallons of...

Anyone use the Inkbird ITC-106VH yet?

No. I haven't put a lot of effort into trying to figure it out, but a manual that explains how to operate the controller is still needed.

    "Session IPA"

I agree 100% with Sadu. My session IPA is one of the most expensive beers I homebrew with a lot of expensive late hops, and the labor with all the late whirlpool hops and dryhopping would add expense if I were brewing commercially. So I don't think it's novelty or a conspiracy to save money...

    "Session IPA"

While I agree that there are subtle differences between a session IPA and an APA, I couldn't disagree more. I haven't had many commercial session IPAs I have been impressed with, but a friend in my homebrew club nailed it, and passed on his recipe and "secrets" to me, which I have been able to...

    Cheap compact wort pump

I'd like to hear what people have to say about these; it looks like there are plenty of suppliers for the comparable pump. I have a Chugger I use for high flow rates and one of the tan cheapies which is nice for mash recirc at low rates. Max Capacity: 16/19 L/min Rated Capacity: 8/12 L/min...

Will this cheap 3500 watt induction burner work?

Your 20A/240V drop is fine for the 3.5kW IC3500, but isn't sufficient for 5kW. You really need a 25A minimum drop for that. BTW, I'll be glad to buy the $250 5kW 13" manual induction top you're "promoting". :)

Will this cheap 3500 watt induction burner work?

A big advantage of induction over an internal element is that there's no element inside the kettle to clean or disinfect. Yes, there are disadvantages, but less crap to deal with is significant.

Will this cheap 3500 watt induction burner work?

That sounds great, unless it's at a whiz bang price point. Yeah, I'm right there with you.

Will this cheap 3500 watt induction burner work?

Have you tried unplugging and plugging it back in to confirm that it could be manually controlled? The problem with the IC3500 and perhaps all or most induction units is that they reset to low/zero power when power is removed. [This electrical engineer plans to try to figure out a way to...
