    "Gamma Seal" lids

The lids are still only $7.35 at Home Depot. This beats almost all deals I see posted.

3 dead induction cookers. Now what?

I have been using the Avantco 3500 for a little over 5 years. It runs at full power to heat strike water and from mash temp, then about 2300W for boil (with a steam condenser), but closer to full power the first few years before installing the condenser. However, I have it sitting on two 2x4s...

    Motor for barley crusher

That cold start is what gets 'em. If you have problems with startup and can manage it, start the motor/drill before adding grains. Unfortunately, that is not always convenient or possible.

    Motor for barley crusher

I bought a used Bodine DC gearmotor and controller off eBay 5 years ago. The nice thing about the DC motor and controller is that it is variable speed, so you can adjust as necessary. At low speed, 1/4 HP is plenty to start up. Bodine 42A5BEPM-E2 Steel 1/4HP DC Gearmotor (10:1 reducer) Bodine...

    BIAB compared to not

Is your kettle big enough for a full volume mash? You have BIAB brewed using "conventional" 3V parameters. Some will argue, but the benefit of BIAB is using full volume and not requiring a separate sparge. You clearly did not get the lautering efficiency. While that is a very fine mesh, I...

Please tell me how to use an induction burner with BIAB

I BIAB indoors with an Avantco IC3500 and a Spike 20G kettle. I bought a HotRod Heat Stick from brewhardware.com to supplement the 3.5KW to reduce heating times. Not too long afterwards, I installed a boil condenser, which has negated the need for higher power. I do not try to actively...

    Strike water temperature reading

This is all that is necessary. Simply stir thoroughly as you get close to your strike temp.

My Hopstopper V2 - On Gas - Implementation

Well, I finally brewed for the 1st time since I bought the Hopstopper ~2 months ago. Unfortunately, I had 2 significant failures. I stated earlier that I electric brew with induction, but didn't mention that it is BIAB also. I should have been clued in when I heard boiling action when...

My Hopstopper V2 - On Gas - Implementation

That's impressive. Can't wait to receve and use mine. I probably typically leave 3-4 quarts of wort/trub in the kettle after transferring 9 gal to the fermenter. Looking forward to a considerable yield improvement,

My Hopstopper V2 - On Gas - Implementation

You've inspired me to buy a Hopstopper 2.0. I electric brew with induction, so I just need the Hopstopper with no additions. I normally let my wort settle for 20-30 minutes after whirlpool before transferring to minimize the transfer of trub. I assume this is no longer necessary , or at least...

Long-distance sensors for temp/humidity and water leaks

I assume your keezer has a collar that is not shielded (with metal). I have a freezer used for storage or fermentation, but it has metal everywhere except at the gasket. I'm wondering if the link between the sensor and hub would be reliable.

    Induction cook top heat control?

My lid is almost always on. I have been using the IC3500 for 4.5 years as mentioned above, and have added a boil condenser for the last 3. Simple DIY BIAB indoor electric brewing. I have no interest in expanding to a 3V system.

    Induction cook top heat control?

I have been using an Avantco IC3500 with my 20G Spike kettle for 4.5 years. The outside kettle diameter is ~18", so it sits on the outer frame of the IC3500. There is no problem with the weight nor getting the heat into the kettle.

What’s The Best BIAB Kettle Size For Me

Go with the 20 gallon kettle. I have a 20G Spike that I have been BIABing with for 5 years. I typically do 9G into the fermenter in the 1.050-1.070 range and have PLENTY of room. Worst case for 12G of 1.065 would be that you couldn't quite do a full-volume mash, having to add some water at...

SS Brewtech Grain Mill Rollers not Parallel

I call total BS on SSB and would let them know the bad publicity they receive on this and possibly other forums will far outweigh their poor quality and customer service. Does the gap remain 0.13mm (0.005") as you adjust the gap settings? Too bad they tried to simplify things by providing...

New house - clearance from my wife for brew room - vent or steam condenser

I don't think that there is condensation on the lid, but when I open the lid, my goal is not to get burned by the steam that gets released, so I'm not examining the bottom of the lid. I can't sat definitively that there's none. However, I have created award-winning beers with BIAB and a boil...

New house - clearance from my wife for brew room - vent or steam condenser

Just watched the entire the Beersmith video again; BTW, thanks for not pointing out the pertinent parts to watch. I see and hear nothing that disqualifies the condenser as an acceptable tool. A vigorous boil is maintained, and the volatiles are removed due to the vacuum created. Additionally...

New house - clearance from my wife for brew room - vent or steam condenser

I have to agree wholeheartedly with Bobby. I have been using a condenser for several years, built from scratch thanks to Brundog (so I didn't buy from Bobby if you're concerned about bias). The condenser is a LOT less expensive than any vent system I looked at adding, and works fantastically...

Boil kettle condenser - no overhead ventilation needed

Doh! Of course. Still probably not the source of TaylorBrewed's problem. Removed my misinformation.
