    Interesting German Brewing PDF

Just finished reading this entire thread. I haven't been this interested in a brewing discussion on HBT since I started home brewing. Regardless of whether performing these brewing techniques ends up being worthwhile, credit to the group that spent all the time and effort to put this together...

American Pale Ale Russian River Row 2 Hill 56 Clone

I brewed this recipe with each hop addition equally split between Simcoe and Mosaic. The beer turned out fantastic (i'll try and post a picture soon) which is saying a lot as the bar has been set so high for me when it comes to hop-forward beers. I'm relatively new to Mosaic but know Simcoe...

    Columbus hops

As does Simcoe, CTZ pairs nicely with any of the 'citrus' varieties (Amarillo, Citra, Centennial etc.). It provides a pungent / herbal character that balances out the bright citrus flavors / aromas. An IPA, especially with the other varieties you have, would work but so would a 'West Coast'...

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

I followed the recipe spot on (grain bill, IBUs, mashed @ 152 etc.) but did a 3 week primary ferment @ 67 (no secondary) with a WLP001 yeast slurry from a local microbrewery (OG 1.052, FG 1.011). For the most part I always do 3 week primarys for my brews even though in some cases its...

Irish Red Ale Irish Red (1st place HBT comp)

Here is a pull from the keg after conditioning for ~1 month and a half. Its dropped crystal clear and has an incredible red hue. Even better its DELISH!!. Incredible malty nose, creamy mouth feel with great lacing. The hints of caramel and slight roastiness are evident while all being...

Irish Red Ale Irish Red (1st place HBT comp)

Used this recipe for our first all grain brew. We' re doing an Irish Red brew off within our brew club and it looked like this would be a good recipe to try. All in all it seemed like it went ok but we ll of course have to wait to see how the beer tastes. Followed the recipe almost spot on but...

    Fellow Divers, DIR for Homebrewers?

I dont know how many other divers frequent these forums so for the sake of everyone else (i.e. non-divers) ill clarify that DIR refers to 'Doing It Right'. Applied to homebrewing I dont know if its a concept that can be as easily laid out as it is for diving. There are so many variables that...

Water Engineering for PA : AJs Water Primer based on Ward Lab Report

Thanks AJ. Ill double check my calculations but I think the point you make overall is a good one: Have a good starting point (i.e. correct mash pH) without overdoing it and make subtle adjustments accordingly from there. I guess there really is no substitute for brewing, brewing, and brewing...

Water Engineering for PA : AJs Water Primer based on Ward Lab Report

Thanks mabrungard...I appreciate it. You confirmed my initial suspicisions on the resulting water profile. I had assumed that the primer was a fool proof method when starting out with soft water as it defined. I downloaded Bru'n Water and will read up some more :) . THanks again for...

Water Engineering for PA : AJs Water Primer based on Ward Lab Report

Hi All, I'll be doing my first all grain within a week and couldnt resist jumping head first into water chemistry (for better or for worse). My Ward Labs Water Analysis was as follows : pH 7.7 Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) Est, ppm 272 Electrical Conductivity, mmho/cm 0.45 Cations /...

New to all grain... Equipment and challenges

@ daveooph131...yes the 20 psi regulator should allow a higher output than the 10. Im not sure what the total output in BTUs will be for the 10 but i bet it will still be adequate for homebrewing purposes. @AWKBrewing13...if you order from Bayou Classic directly its specd with the 20 psi...

New to all grain... Equipment and challenges

It looks like amazon revised the specs for the burner to 10 psi (see customer review threads regarding this). One option would be to see if Bayou would entertain a discount on the 20 or 30 psi regulator in exchange for the 10. If not you can always purchase the 20 or 30 psi regulator from...

New to all grain... Equipment and challenges

your call as to spending the extra 30 bucks for the AIH burner...i think in your case it could probably be better utilized elsewhere for your brewery setup...but your money your decision. Yes a 9 gallon pot will work for 5 gal batches... i think an 8 gallon pot would be about as low as you...

New to all grain... Equipment and challenges

Alright Ill chime in... "But what about the burner? should I go with this versus the Bayou brands?" My 2 cents would be to stick with one of the Bayou brands. Not that there is anything wrong with the other burner but you save about ~ 30 bucks by going with the Bayou which is more than...
