    Dogs

We attempted a family portrait this summer. It was too damn sunny and in every pic either the wife or me (or both!) are squinting. Oh well - it's the dogs you want to look at: From left to right: Kaia (age 12.5) - competed in the USA Schutzhund National championships in 2000. Jaguar...

    New guy in Missouri

Welcome! I grew up in Columbia, MO and now live in the St. Louis area. We have several home brew supply shops over here. There's also a homebrewer's club, http://www.stlbrews.org which is a great resource to meet others and talk shop. Obviously that's a bit of a haul from Jeff City, but if...

Best and worse bottles to cap

I haven't had many problems with bottles. In my experience the bottles that seem to be more problematic than the others are Fat Tire.

Help, my AG brews are not strong enough

Precisely! IMHO, as long as the majority of your recipe is coming from the mash and not extract you won't notice a difference. I really enjoyed the PM beers I brewed before moving to AG...

What do YOU use to do AG?

50qt. rectangular cooler converted to MLT with SS braid Turkey fryer (aluminum) Immersion chiller 1 five gallon glass carboy 2 6.5 gallon buckets The turkey fryer will soon be replaced with a 20 gallon SS converted medical oxygen tank that I scored on craigslist. However I must first upgrade...

Two Hearted Ale Clone (Partial Mash)

    I just bottled my Two-Hearted "clone" on Monday: 10lbs 2-row 1.75lbs Vienna 1lb Crystal 60° 1oz Centennial @ 60min 1oz Centennial @ 20min 2oz Centennial @ 5min I used Safale S-04 dry yeast. Dry-hopped with 1oz Centennial in secondary. I'm hoping this'll go down well on...

moving up to 10 gall AG

The base looks nice and sturdy, but that burner only puts out 55k BTU. Is that sufficient for 10 gallon batches? I just picked up a 20 gallon brewpot (converted medical oxygen tank), and am in the market for a new burner and stand because my turkey fryer isn't going to cut it... The Banjo...

    Is this cooler big enough?

I brewed a barleywine eight days ago. The 20lb. grain bill plus water nearly filled my 48qt cooler. I could have squeezed in some more, but I wouldn't have felt very confident in my ability to stir without some overflowage.

    STL n00b (anyone wanna brew?)

Unfortunately I'm busy the next couple weekends. I'm sure you'd get a positive response if you posted on the Brews forum. Members are always brewing and they don't mind company. http://www.stlbrews.org/phpbb2/index.php The club meets the first Thursday of the month. They just ask for $3...

    Hello from Washington, MO

Welcome! I'm not too far from you (JeffCo side of Eureka). I've got to get my usual plug in here for the local home brew club: http://www.stlbrews.org It's a good resource to connect with others in the area and sample lots of great brew!

    Hello from Rolla, MO

Greetings, GW! I just drove through Rolla this weekend on my way back from Table Rock Lake. I know there is someone from Rolla who makes the drive to St. Louis to attend the STLBrews club monthly meetings. We actually have one tomorrow night (Thurs 9/6) in our new meeting location just a...

    Great Movie Quotes

Love that movie! Any film with a marionette sex scene is a winner in my book :D My fave quote has got to be this: We're d!cks! We're reckless, arrogant, stupid d!cks. And the Film Actors Guild are pu55ies. And Kim Jong Il is an a$$hole. Pu55ies don't like d!cks, because pu55ies get f#cked...

    Odell Brewing

The Isolation is their winter seasonal. I enjoyed a 6er of the last batch - maybe you had a skunked bottle? I REALLY, REALLY like the 5 Barrel Pale Ale! Before I started brewing again (less than a year ago), I was buying it all the time. I've never seen their IPA, but seeing how it's my...

Need to chill AG without chiller

I've never used a chiller. It sounds like using a chiller is the proper way to go, but I wanted to chime in and say that you can still make great beer without one. My water comes from a well. Out of the tap it's REALLY cold - even in the summer. I fill up the tub with cold water (no ice!)...

    Stuff Shoved In Beer...

My buddy has taken to ordering Miller Lite with lime on nights when he's really broke. He calls it a "Faux-rona". The name is catching on with a couple bartenders ;)
