Thoughts on improving a Muntons Brown Ale kit

You guys are right in the fact that I'm changing the recipe way to much. What I should have done is brewed the kit as per instructions but only add enough water to hit an OG of about 1.045 and then after tasting it try to determine how to "improve" the kit. I brew all grain and design my own...

Thoughts on improving a Muntons Brown Ale kit

Unfortunately none of my LHBS carry those. I'll see if I can find it online for a decent price. Any particular hops you'd recommend?

Thoughts on improving a Muntons Brown Ale kit

I did end up making the kit with what I mentioned above but pitched Wyeast British Ale 1098. I made a 21L batch and without adding DME or LME I measured an OG of 1.046 which is right around what I was aiming for. After everything was mixed the wort tasted good but I found it a touch on the...

Thoughts on improving a Muntons Brown Ale kit

So I was thinking instead of just adding DME to the muntons kit I would BIAB 2lb 2row, 3.2oz crystal 60, and 1oz chocolate. I'd steep in 3-4 liters of water until iodine test showed conversion was complete. I'd boil with 3 more liters of RO water and add at 60min .5oz saaz and add .5oz saaz at...

Thoughts on improving a Muntons Brown Ale kit

I typically am an all grain brewer but I want to brew a few simple kits to see what quality of beer they'd make. I'd also like to see what options are available for improving them. I grabbed a Muntons Brown Ale kit and was thinking of adding 1KG of DME (not decided on amber or dark yet) and...

    First AG brew. 61% eff.

Out of curiosity are you batch sparging or fly sparging? When I started all grain I was fly sparging but I didn't have the proper set up and my efficiency wasn't good. I switched to batch sparging and average around %80 efficiency now. I have a corona mill that I adjusted using a credit card...

Help determining why my bottles aren't carbonating

I moved them upstairs in my house where they should be around 70f. I'll let them sit for a couples weeks and try one. I was just wondering if the cold crashing was the issue. Thanks

Help determining why my bottles aren't carbonating

Hey guys, I usually keg but have decided to bottle some of my beer in order to share it with friends and taste it after a few months of conditioning. I used Brewers Best carbonation drops and bottled about 2 weeks ago. I cracked one open yesterday and there was 0 carbonation. The beer spent...

    Best Priced Homebrew Supply Sites

IMO you'd be better off buying a 50-55lb sack of 2-row and 1lb of each hop. Not sure how it is in the USA but in Canada a 55lb sack of 2-row is $40 vs $1.50+ per LB and a lb of hops is <$20 vs $2-3 per oz.

    Batch sparge lautering times?

I also do 10 gallon all grain batches and find that using a BIAB style bag in my mash tun works great. I have yet to encounter slow or stuck sparges.

Any place in Canada where I can buy a Keging system and kegs.

Have you tired looking on kijiji or craigslist? I'm in Manitoba and bought 2 kegs, co2 regulator, tap and 20lb co2 tank for $210 off kijiji this summer.

Was given a Coopers Irish Stout Extract Kit

I was going to boil the kit and the DME for 10min. Does that sound like a good plan?

Was given a Coopers Irish Stout Extract Kit

I'll add DME and dextrose and use the wyeast. Thanks for your input.

Was given a Coopers Irish Stout Extract Kit

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of using wyeast 1084 yeast and fermenting at 20C. What would you suggest as a mini mash? I don't mind taking some extra time to try and make this kit as good as possible. I usually brew 10 gallon all grain batches that take 4 hours or more so adding some...

Was given a Coopers Irish Stout Extract Kit

Hey guys, I'm usually an all grain brewer but a friend gifted me a Coopers Irish Stout kit. Other than adding some DME and dextrose is there anything I can do to make this kit taste better?

    Thermometer

I'm thinking of grabbing the Thermoworks MTC along with a couple of 113-372/373/375-T probes. From what I've read it's supposed to be very reliable and accurate. Thoughts?

What are you doing instead of brewing this weekend?

Sadly no brewing this weekend but I had an awesome 5 hour jam yesterday with some good friends and great homebrew. We killed a keg of pilsner and another filled with pale ale but luckily have 10 gallons cold crashing that will be ready for kegging in a few days. I love the satisfaction of...
