    Expired Coopers Wheat Beer Kit

    I rehydrated the yeast and made the kit last night and am happy to say that the air lock is bubbling nicely. I didn't add any dextrose or DME but only added about 14 liters of water and got an OG of 1.04. Curious to see how this turns out.

    Beer prices - yikes

    The tax system is pretty ridiculous although it varies by province. I'm in Manitoba and it's a lot higher than other provinces. Our sales tax is %13 and that's after they tax about %30 of your paycheck. At least we're real friendly up here, eh?

    My local LHBS was blowing out some Coopers kits for $10 so I grabbed a wheat beer kit. I didn't know that they were on sale because they Expired Oct 2014. Is the yeast packaged with the kit still good or should I buy something like the Lallemand wheat beer yeast?

    I added 2oz cascade to the keg last night. I'll taste it tomorrow and see how it turns out.

    I think I'll try 1oz cascade, 1oz mosaic, 0.5oz Simcoe. Thanks guys. I'll add a bit more aroma and whirlpool hops next time I brew this as well.

    Ratio: Grain to DME to LME

    Do you mean how much grain would be needed to have the same gravity in your brew as 3lb of extract? If so I think it would be equal to about 4lb of a base malt like 2 row.
