Where have all the great deals on Cornys gone?

Took 'em a few days, but MoreBeer's deal of the day is finally corney's - for $19! Just grabbed one myself, and though I know I'll still have to get the soda syrup out totally worth it for that price!

    My ProAm Experience...

Awesome! That sounds like it was a blast. I had to laugh at the hydrometer crisis....nice to see there's a fine line between homebrew and "Pro"! :D :tank:

    How much C02

There's a ton of variables that come into play: #1: How long are your serving lines? This will affect the foam issue based on the resistence the 3/16" lines create. Most here will swear by the 10' line length as a starting point. #2: What temps are you storing the kegs at? The temp of the beer...

    Next step: Keg or AG

Full on +1 for the Kegs! There's something so sweet about pulling a fresh pint from a cold keg - hard to beat that!

    ferm chamber idea

The first question/issue I see is how are you going to get the carboys out of the lowest level if you have shelving above them and carboys currently fermenting... ? Are you going to design some kind of hinge/lift system so you have access to the lowest portion in the chest freezer without...

Do I need to use the plastic collars on my shanks?

I'd say you're probably fine. If the drilled hole is tight enough and won't pull through or put too much pressure on the tap connection, you're probably fine. The black collar just acts like a glorified washer and spreads the pressure over a larger area, but isn't totally necessary. One...

    Keg storage

+1 on the sanitizer and CO2! The CO2 and StarSan definitely helps to keep the junk from growing/collecting in the keg, and by keeping it under pressure you're ensuring the seals don't dry out and go bad on you. Nothing worse then kegging up some beer and finding the keg won't hold pressure!

    Too much cornie carb

Yeah, I was running out the door and wanted to post quickly....guess I didn't get away with that 'spell-check'... :D

Unsure of where to go from here could use some advice

Unless you know for a fact the beer kit is really fresh - definitely +1 on throwing out those ingredients/kit....they can't be any good if you grabbed them from a garage sale/discount place. Who knows how old they are. Malt (especially liquid malt) goes bad/rancid over time. You don't want to...

    Does DIY Glycol really work?

Already ahead of you... I am using it to chill a fermenter at the moment. I'm not using copper pipe (though you could), but since the Polyethylene pipe is already pretty good at cold transfer I just have it running in and then out of the waterbath I have the fermenter sitting in before heading...

    Too much cornie carb

Yes, and/or cut out the priming sugar altogether. If you're kegging and have a CO2 setup already there's not really a reason to use the sugar per-say... Also, I'd say your lines are too short - I'd double the length on those and that will help cut down on the foam issue a bit too.

got a corny keg kit, now what the heck

Maybe....though if he got an actual "Kit" from Keg Connection then they should be included...

got a corny keg kit, now what the heck

No need to force anything - if it doesn't go on easily there's something amiss. As Reelale said - use the colored disconnects (that you should have with the kit) to attach to the keg. The Black one (liquid out) will go on the "Out" post, and the Gray/White disconnect (gas in) will go on the "In"...

    Smithwick's Extract Recipe

Sweet! Looks like I just found my next batch of beer! Looking through the list, Austin has quite a few good kits - I may have to order a few from them!

Is Northern Brewer's deal on perlicks worth it?

IMHO, that's an ok deal - but I still would get mine from Keg Connection! Even with a basic black plastic handle KC's are still cheaper by a few bucks taking into account NB's 10% off promo. Your difference may come down to shipping costs depending on what else your getting at the same time.

    Does DIY Glycol really work?

I just recently completed my own DIY on glycol-esque cooling lines. My run length wasn't nearly what yours is. If you're going to buy premade lines the hard work is over. I made my own 3-supply line (since no-one makes this - and I made it at 10% the cost of premade) and just installed it this...

Problems getting gas to the keg

One thing to check is if your regulator adjustment knobs pull out to adjust (kind of like a pull-out crown on an old style wristwatch)... Don't know if that helps...

First time kegging - keg is pressurized?

Way to go on your first keg setup! Yeah, Keg Connection does do a good job with their products - and they have some of the best prices around (especially on Perlick Taps for when you get to that point!). Definitely check the o-rings on the posts since they do not replace them themselves. Most...

    Chest Freezer

I'll second this advice since I just picked myself up a Frigidaire 9.0cf at Lowes that was on clearance because it had a few minor dents in the lid (nothing compromising the insulation or efficiency of the unit). Saved myself $50 over the undented model and still has factory warranty. Definitely...
