    Worthless craftsman saw horse...

I am extremely sorry for your loss but I have to say thank you... I have this same saw horse that I use for building guitars and was debating on whether to use it for beer making too. I now know craftsman is not the sawhorse that I want working with my beer!

I just had an uh oh moment

yeah youre going to get a fraction higher ABV in your beer and now you need something to prime your beer with! The good news is since youve pitched in your dextrose you can open up your wild side with priming ideas ;) table sugar, dextrose, honey, priming tablets... it all works

    Conical Fermenter

Just relax :) if you boiled your stuff for the full amount of time it mixed just fine. You should be happy that you can even see through your conical! The stainless steel ones are completely blocked out from any sight. Give it two weeks then slowly start dumping the trub/yeast cake with the...

    How To Add Pineapple?

I actually have a recipe worked up of a pumpkin ale that I am going to ferment in a pumpkin for a secondary I am thinking of doing a test run though this summer in a watermelon. if only pineapples were big enough to actually do this with!

1 gallon Brooklyn brew shop question

If you do small batches like this then you can keep going all grain untill you choose to move up in the world. All around it is cheaper, plus you should learn some yeast washing techniques if you brew similar beers. For one gallon batches yeast packs can get somewhat expensive if you venture...

1 gallon Brooklyn brew shop question

Youre good, it was a little hot for the yeast but thats really not a problem. If anything they may produce some off flavors but with the grapefruit honey ale I have a feeling the flavors will mesh so tight you wont be able to tell. That beer probably has a low starting gravity to begin with and...

    Worries

If your yeast was pitched into 90 degree wort chances are you didnt kill it but you have shocked it. So the yeast will be strianing and may produce some off flavors that are not the greatest (I still do this now and again, sometimes in small test batches looking for off flavors I like sometimes...

    brewer's best kit

If you look at instructions on most kits it gives you the minimum amount of time to let your beer sit. I have not fooled around with lagers personally but with all my ales, the longer it ages the better. And extra week or three will not kill it and youre going to wind up with a better product, I...

Recapping at the very beginning of carbonation.

No sweat Oaney,i kinda jumped the gun anyways on assuming it was an Irish Red (thats my personal favorite base malt style) so when I see red I instantly think Irish. Regardless though I have to say thank you on giving me an idea! I usually use East Kent Goldings and/or Willamette for my IRA but...

Stupid ordering mistake... Any potential to salvage lost grains?

I made a beer with a very similar grain bill (minus the carafoam) and I used 6 row, it was an all grain 1 gallon personal recipe. For hops I used East Kent Goldings and Willamette. Unfortunately I did not do it correct (begginers mistake here) and thought that if I added more water I would get a...

    Problem? Waiting on bottles!

My very first aged batch I left in the secondary for almost 6 months and I just threw in corn sugar and it carbed up fine by itself so you have time

Recapping at the very beginning of carbonation.

He used 3.3 Muntons Hopped LME so my guess is the extra hops where just flavor hops. Never used liberty for an Irish Red though so now I think I am going to experiment too!

Recapping at the very beginning of carbonation.

I would take one look at the caps and think "well, it was designed for this batch of beer, might as well make it again and use them" its an excuse to brew more but not an excuse for risking oxidization, infection, no carbonation. However if you do recap them let me know how well it works!

Moving up in the world... Kinda

Joepez now youve got me drooling over the conical, is it the 6.5gal? As for your keg question, if you naturally carbonate in the keg yes you can. Co2 gets into the beer faster and more efficently in the cold when you force carb (that smy understanding hence the need for cold) but if you...

Brand New to HomeBrewing and in Need of Some Direction

Normally I would agree with you here, but he has an electric stove, I cant imagine how much time that would take to do a full five gallon batch. The best suggestion so far, when I first started I knew of one LHBS and that was it. I did 5 minutes worth of reaserch and now have found three...

$25 Gift Certificate...What would you buy?

Focus on what you need! Do you have enough bottles for you beer? (I re-use commercial bottles I steal from friends most of the time to save money there) How about bottle caps? You can buy another beer kit which would be the tastiest choice available to you! Bottle trees are alright if you...

Brand New to HomeBrewing and in Need of Some Direction

I would go with your first link. thats my LHBS and for every $200 you spend you get $10 off. If you have 400-500 to spend what I would do is tone down that kit though. Unless you plan to make some big beers you really dont need to secondary. Add two weeks extra to your primary (its not going to...

    Alternate Priming Sugars

You can use a whole array of things but each one will have a different effect Corn Sugar and DME are two pretty clean ones to use Honey will take a little longer and depending on the taste impart flavors into your beer you may or may not like Molases and Brown Sugar can be used but sometimes...
