dry hopping with 3 different hops...a few ?'s

Hmm...thanks for the info guys. I always thought it was better to seperate additions (why? I dunno), but now I think I'll do 1 big addition. So would it be better to dry hop with only 2oz? I like the profile of Amarillo (and do know it can lead to a grassy taste), but with 3 similiar hops...

dry hopping with 3 different hops...a few ?'s

So I have a huge IIPA fermenting right now, and will eventually dry hop it with a combo of Amarillo/Cascade/Citra. Going for a huge citrus aroma. Anyways, can I do something like: 1oz Amarillo- Day 14 1oz Cascade- Day 18 1oz Citra- Day 22 ...or would it be better to mix them and do...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Well guys, I think I will do the Montrachet and use table sugar to get a tiny bit more sweetness. Maybe after the first time I'll start experimenting, but for the first Apfelwein I might as well stick to tried and true methods! :rockin:

    extract to sugar ratios?

Gotcha. Well what I was reading was more that yeast attenuation is based on malts. I also read that if you'd use WLP001 on just corn sugar (and nothing else), that you might actually see a much higher attenuation since its almost all completely fermentable as opposed to extract which has more...

    extract to sugar ratios?

Quick question before I brew my 5th and most anticipated brew! :rockin: I plan on doing a 3 gal batch of a double IPA, mainly to keep cost down, and becuase I want to make sure its good before doing a 6 gal batch. Is there a common rule on ratio for extract vs sugars...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Ok, I was trying to search but couldn't really find a specific answer. I absoutely hate Woodchuck, but Strongbow seems to be a perfect medium between super dry fruit wines and super sugary Woodchuck. Say I wanted something in the Strongbow realm of taste. Would it be better to use the...

PA/DE/MD/NJ guys: Where to buy Pliny the Elder?

Random question guys, but I hear good things about Pliny the Elder, but being on the east coast, its damn near impossilbe to find. I was wondering if anyone knew where in SE PA, or even other states (I visit DE and MD pretty often), you can get Pliny the Elder and/or Pliny the Younger. Not...

    too many hops?

I knew about an IBU limit, wasn't sure if there was some sort of max saturation point for hop oil or something like that. Seeing 19oz...makes me think I'll try 9oz for a 2.5 gal batch. :tank::tank: As for hop bursting...interesting idea...I'll have to read up on that a bit more. Thanks...

    too many hops?

Ok, this is a completely wild question :ban: I created my own imperial IPA to brew, with around a 1.095 OG, and will be doing a small 2-3 gallon batch of it since its way to expensive to brew a full 5 gallons right now for me. However, I want a insanely hoppy beer, like SN Torpedo on crack...

    Basement approaching 68F

Same here. My basement runs 68* degrees in the summer, which is perfect in my opinion. I also drape a long t-shirt over my ale pail...I noticed if its touching the concrete floor well, it tends to draw some of the cool moisture off the floor, and keeps the fermentation temps down, even with...

what's needed for high alcohol beers?

I actually think I'm going to do a 3gal batch just because the amount of hops I want to use for it would be rediculously out of my price range for a 5gal batch. I also decided to keep it around 10-11% as it will be my first big beer, I didn't want to go toooooo overboard. :D;) Would a...

    hops storage question

    hops storage question

I have a question about storing hops. I bought about 2lbs worth from cheaphops (Steelers77) and want to know how to store them. (Quick plug, but he shipped very fast and was easy to communicate via E-mail, highly recommend!) He shipped them in the foil packing that were sealed, but weren't...

took just a taste after in primary a week..

I had the same problem with my citrus hefe I brewed. When I went to bottle after about 2 1/2 weeks in the primary, I sampled and it had a strong soap taste. I thought maybe it was because SWMBO washed my primary out with dawn, even though I re rinsed with oxyclean and star san. Bottled...

what's needed for high alcohol beers?

So, after my wedding this weekend, SWMBO is allowing me to drop some serious money on doing a huge IPA. I'm planning on doing something in between a Dogfish 90 and 120 IPA. Around 14-15% ABV. Ton of hops. But, am I going to far? :cross: What's needed for a 15%ABV beer? Special yeast, or...

    planting hops today, some questions.

I have a Nugget and a Cascade rhizome that I'm going to be planting soon, but have a few questions (I live in PA by the way). 1.) How far apart is minimum? I read 5', but the space I have between my house end and the A/C unit will only let me plant them about 3-4' apart. Is this going to be...

high final gravity and weird taste at bottling...

So is that the only cause for the taste? And will it mellow with age, or is the beer done for?

high final gravity and weird taste at bottling...

I used White Labs WLP320, the American Hefe. I filtered out the break material before pitching, but added the orange/lemon/lime zest directly to the primary after sanitizing. See below. Hmm....well, it was only in my primary for 15 days. I did consider that maybe its something to do with the...

high final gravity and weird taste at bottling...

So, I just bottled my citrus hefeweizen. I used: 7lbs fresh LME, 2 oz hops, 1/2lb each victory, crystal 20l and munich. I also added the zest of 5 oranges, 1 lemon and 1 lime at flameout and transferred to the primary. My OG was 1.050 and my FG (after 3 consistant days) was 1.018. Now I...
