    CT Brewers Check-In

I just friggin' wish there was something closer to Milford.

    Northern Brewer

Right before I placed the order I just did, I was looking at 36 lb or LME for $79.99. Now that free shipping is available again, it's $99.99. It's still cheaper to buy bulk, get free shipping and make sure I get things I need all in one big order. I have read that most online brew shops are...

When did you stop extract brewing?

I appreciate all fully respect your post. I was more asking about honing one's craft. @Harleybrew32 mentioned their method being the issue. I was likening your comment to what they were saying. Not that it's cheating perse, but a less time-consuming way of getting a desirable result. I don't...

When did you stop extract brewing?

So what would you say was the change to your method that made the biggest difference? Is it that brewing AG have you a better understanding of what you were doing? Like the analogy of baking or hamburgers... If it's apre-made thing in abox, you can easily cook or bake it and it can come out...

    CT Brewers Check-In

I had an awful time navigating their online store. When I search something, it yields 100+ results. I would like to go there just because the owners were on Basic Brewing Radio and seemed awesome, knowledgeable and passionate. But not somewhere I'm gonna go online. Also, Lasting Brass's War...

Something betwixt barley wine & bochet?

I am looking into making something that resembles a barley wine, but using methods from a bochet mead to beef it up. I am hoping to impart a little, char or smoke, either vanilla or almond extract, candied orange peel, and then...I'm not sure. I don't want to go into coffee or chocolate...

    I. MADE. BEER.

I'm still new to Brewing. So my first Brew is only about 2 months into aging. I'm on my sixth batch in primary now and am looking at barleywines and pastry stouts for agings while I chug my hoppy ales. I'm just keeping 2 bottles of any beer I brew, writing a bottling date on them and checking...

    I. MADE. BEER.

It's gonna depend on the beer store. Anything heavily hopped will be less than 2 months, but that gives a nice time for hops to mellow out. Darker or less hoppy beers will be as long as I can stop myself. I wouldn't mind testing a year or 2. Some people buy beers just to age them. It's a weird...

    I. MADE. BEER.

Welcome to the party! Beer is good. I save the last 2 bottles of each brew to put in my "cellar" which means under my kitchen counter next to a box of milk glass vases my wife has in a box.

Would almond milk or almond extract ruin head retention?

I'm looking at making a darker beer with some rich flavors and I like almonds... Does the nut beverage or extract ruin beer? I'm thinking cashew, almond, etc... I know people often use PB2 or the like to get peanut butter flavor because the oil is stripped out. Any ideas or knowledge?

    Worst Craft Beer Of ALL-TIME!

That's a good damn beer. Tripels are lovely. Try Allagash's Tripel. Now there's a damn fine beer! Worst craft beer I've had (that I can remember) was Stony Creek's Big Cranky DIPA. It tasted like bile and malt. I always hated that beer.

When did you stop extract brewing?

I had a quick boil over on my second Brew because I was trying to stir in some hops...I couldn't have stopped it if I tried. After doing some research, I found that LME isn't needed to be in a 60 minute boil. So I boil my bittering hops for 60, adding my malt and flavoring hops at 15, then more...

When did you stop extract brewing?

I just ordered 36 lb of Briess gold LME because Northern Brewer is back to free shipping over $60. And it saves $35 by ordering 6 x 6 lb rather than order 2 or 3 at a time. Gold is "pale malt with a little CaraPils" so that sounds good for general ale brewing. I've only used wheat and Pilsen so...

    Incompetence at brew shops

I refuse to deal with my LHBS while on lockdown just because of their awful website. The owners have been guests on Basic Brewing Radio, and I was like, "Oh. I'll go visit them." Pandemic Their website Northern Brewer and Hops Direct win. Sorry your LHBS is a bunch of chumps.

    Is this normal?

I'm a different thread, I was giving the CHEMICAL formula of potassium sorbate (C6H7KO2) which isn't as easy as CO2 or O2 or most others when dealing with beer chemistry. Even dextrose is only C₆H₁₂O₆!
