    Grocery Store Ingredients?

Awesome. Thank you! So would I be okay to get Purple cornmeal, or would I do better to try something different for a first partial mash? Dryness, a little color and a slightly higher ABV is exactly what I want from this brew. I'm also adding light brown sugar. I'm looking forward to this funky...

    Grocery Store Ingredients?

I am looking at trying a partial mash with my LME. I think it would be a good way to dip my toes in all grain, which I plan on moving to. I have done some research so far. I know that oats add a creamy mouthfeel. Like I said, I was interested in an Incan Chicha-inspired beer. Typically, they...

    Grocery Store Ingredients?

@IslandLizard I see grits, ferra, oats, cornmeal, quinoa and all sorts of other stuff being used. I would happily do a partial mash if I can grab something from a local grocer. Whole Foods carries a bunch of grains. I just am curious if there's something I should look out for. I'm working on a...

Is there a Clone Recipe database?

Okay. Cool. I was interested in a database in case there were beers I wouldn't have thought of. Most the market here is saturated by local beers from local breweries or macro brews that I wouldn't care to replicate. New England has a lot of breweries. But hey, thanks so much for that insight. I...

Is there a Clone Recipe database?

Especially for extract brewing? I've found a bunch of recipes, but they're for beers I've never had. Not sure I'd want to even clone Zombie Dust because I wouldn't be able to tell if I succeeded. I would like to clone Focal Banger or Heady Topper. But there so many beers out there. Thanks.

    Grocery Store Ingredients?

I recently made a purchase of Pilsener LME and stocked up on hops that were super on sale. I don't do grain brewing yet but am trying to get more involved. I know I could grab oats, cereal, maybe some other grains from a local grocery store (in CT, US). Any ideas of what I could add to a...

    Using LME

So to prevent a boil over, I could technically boil my hop additions for however long, then add my LME at 15 or flameout? That would be so easy if that is what you're saying. I was just thinking to myself, why would I need to boil LME for an hour if it's already extracted sugar from malt?

    Black-Blackberry IPA

Now I need to make one! Damnit.

When did you stop extract brewing?

Awesome. Thanks to everyone. I'll be looking at getting more involved soon.

    Black-Blackberry IPA

As long as you're happy to drink it. I just figured that makes sense. I'm in New England. I'm exposed to weird IPAs too often.

When did you stop extract brewing?

That's quite the heavy brew. How many gallons were you making? 12 lb is almost double what I brew in a 5.5 gallon. 6lb LME and 1.5 lb sucrose. This was a kit? Everything measured out already, yeah?

When did you stop extract brewing?

Thanks! I'm definitely gonna stick with LME for now due to space limitations and lack of equipment and money (considering I'm not working). I am curious if anyone has, most likely, used different type of LME with steeping grains. A recipe will show a grain bill of 75% A, 12% B, 8% C, 5% D. While...

6 oz of hops and no flavor...

Try using it as a base for a soup/chili/roast in a crockpot! Beer and hot peppers are my thing. I'll be growing hops and Trinidad Scorpions.

When did you stop extract brewing?

That sounds nice. Goals. And unfortunately, I don't work on bikes. The guy we were going to buy the house from did. I was going to take it over as my workspace. It just had a good setup for my hobbies; space for tools, counter space, roll up garage door, level cement... Then I didn't have a...

Lowering the ABV from a recipe

That seems like a very high ABV for a saison. Maybe a different recipe would work better anyway?

    Black-Blackberry IPA

I would try using El Dorado as a late/dry addition for that light fruitiness. Then MFing lactose! I'm only half joking. Black blackberry milkshake IPA? Call it a Smoothie? Tree House has Julius. You have..."The Smoothie"!

When did you stop extract brewing?

I'm still new to this Homebrewing thing. Starter kit came with LME and so I purchased more because that's what I learned with. So now I have a small inventory of LME. In order to switch to BIAB/all grain/partial grain, I'd have to upgrade to more than just a kettle on my kitchen stove. I...

6 oz of hops and no flavor...

I've seen some people using repurposed Corny Kegs that haven't been cleaned properly. Any chance of this? Maybe it was a diet cola? Just a possibility?

    Do Bittering Hops Even Matter?

So I just bottled a Pilsener Newport SMASH. I added 1.5 oz Newport at 60 and .5 oz at 15. I had a little left over after racking, bottled to a soda bottle, cold crashed and tested it. My wife said it was juicy and bright but still quite bitter. I'd almost describe it as an Arnold Palmer, but...
