    Foam on top of wort??

F***ing hell! Right after I hit “post thread”, I looked up and there was foam everywhere… my first boil over. yay…

    Foam on top of wort??

I just finished my mash and was heating my wot to a boil when I looked in my kettle to admire my work and there is almost a soapy foam (suds?) on top of the wort. I’m pretty sure I didn’t leave any cleany stuff in there ( maybe a bit of star san). I tasted it and it doesn’t taste like soap so...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I was gonna do a SMaSH tomorrow just to get rid of my leftover Sabro hops but I bought some Citra and added some Caramel 20 to the grain bill at the LHBS and now it’s an IPA… kind of…

I wonder what would happen if....

Despite my life being a continuous string of “what ifs” followed by the unpleasant consequences, I can’t for the life of me think of a good one at the moment …being able to remember my early 20s would be nice right about now. “Then why bother to comment?”, you ask? Because the OP used the word...

    Flavorful Beer for Women?

My wife likes cider and has never been too into beer. From time to time she’ll tell me she likes “ the beer I got that one time”. Despite her being an avid coffee drinker, she doesn’t like stouts or at least Guinness, Reve and Old Rasputin… I stopped offering stouts after the coffee stout was a...

    Is this sparging or…?

Thanks for the info! I was leaning towards option 2 (rinsing the grains with wort… pretty much) but just needed a little bit of input. The recipe and BF math is based off of the total water so wouldn’t the wort without the top off just be a higher gravity until the t/o water is added, thus...

    Hi folks

Welcome! This place is great, these folks have kept me from banjaxing my last (and first) two brews and I might make it through my next one without any dumb questions… unlikely but they still don’t mind answering them if I ask. I saw “Aberdeen” and got excited. … but you’re from a way cooler...

    Is this sparging or…?

So I was running a witbier recipe through Brewfather and wanted to make more than my usual 3 gallons in my 6.5 Anvil foundry (because I really like witbiers) and Brewfather spit out a “top up” amount for the water since that water would (presumably) cause an overflow or some other near...

    It’s just unfair!

…I just got 4 porters out of the FC where they’re conditioning and moved them to the fridge. They still have a week or two left to go but the last one I tasted (for science) was pretty okay/good, maybe I won’t be too deep into those when they’re properly conditioned. Also, Sunday is brew day...

    It’s just unfair!

Thank you for the comforting words in these difficult times.

    It’s just unfair!

I just poured the last of my brown ale (from my very first all grain batch/first batch in a decade), retired to my bed to “watch my stories”, took my first sip… …and it tastes amazing! Like better than the others from this batch. Or is that just a psychological thing because it’s the last one...

Anvil Foundry 5.5 Gallon Kettle Brewing 5 gallons of beer

I think you mean the 6.5(?) I use the same system and generally brew 3-3.5 gallon batches depending on the size of the grain bill. Brewing software (Brewfather) has been a great resource in scaling/ planning my batches since it will give you mash water and top up volumes so you know what to...

    Brew day #2 is done.

About that.... About two weeks ago on bottling day, I did indeed "taste it". My fermentatoring bucket has one of those weird thingamajigs on the spigot to help keep trub out (in?) or whatever so there was about a half-gallon or so of beer left after transferring/adding priming sugar/ CBC-1 etc...

Warming Fermenting Fridge in Cool Weather?

I grew up (arguably) on the Gulf Coast (pretty much all points between NOLA and Pensacola). I only remember maybe twice in my almost 20 years of living down there, seeing snow and I was too young to drive so It was just fun for me. Everyone around here (North MS) seems to think that 4wd is the...

Warming Fermenting Fridge in Cool Weather?

It appears that the ice driving education curriculum in FL is almost identical to that of MS. It's a whopping 17 degrees here, at least it isn't raining...again.
