I tried the Summer Ale at a local restuarant, on tap. I was disappointed in the lack of taste. It was extremely bland.

Starters are a pretty low volume. Does it really matter if it's "in keeping with the style"?

12 oz. bottle are good for giving samples out to friends. 22 oz. bottles are easier on bottling day. I kinda like the middle option, 1L flip top. It's a good size for drinking, and the flip tops stand out. Beer bottles should be brown!

I did this kit for my first. I thought it was fantastic, as did everyone who tried it that was a regular beer drinker. It definately tasted nothing like Bud, it's an ale.

I use my bottling bucket to sanitize my bottles, kills two birds with one stone. Fill it with star-san and 4 gallons of water, put the bottles in the bottom for at least 30 seconds each (after all the air is out), empty them and put them on a tree until it's time to bottle.

I think you are meaning that you would pour unsanitize water into your wort at the end of the boil. Although I'd assume the high temperatures would kill any infections, I'm not sure you could guarantee that. Also, you'd risk hot side oxidation with a pour.

I did a starter that was very quick, around 6 hours, but my last two brews took more like 36 hours to get going, one a liquid and one a dry-starter. I think it mostly had to do with pitching into wort that was warmer that optimum and maybe shocking the beasties a bit.

I'll have to work on a recycling set-up. For now, at least open loop gives me a way to water the lawn, too.

I've only been able to cool last couple batches down to around 82F with local water (San Antonio) plus it's been in the 100's for like, 3,000 straight days. Last batch I used a large half barrel bucket to ice the beer. I just bought a pre-chiller though for next batch. Another problem is...
