    Look Pic! Infected?

^ how is that helpful. its fine, I call them yeast islands, some call them yeast rafts or floaties. they still freak me out sometimes until i look more closely. it just indicates not all of the yeast have settled yet and there is likely some fermenting/clean up going on. they tend to clear up...

    Anyone use these for bottling?

No the bottle goes flat because you are causing CO2 to come out of solution every time you open it and pour a glass of pop/beer/whatever was in there and fizzy. Also as the liquid goes down it is replaced by air space which the CO2 will fill up until the pressure is equalized in the bottle. This...

    Anyone using old soda kegs?

just check the price against new unused cornys. ive seen some sites selling new ones for about the same price people are asking for referbished ones. i have been looking at kegging and in my area new just seems like a better deal the long run.

Poll: How do people aerate their wort?

my first brew i stired it until my arm hurt. it took forever to start (about 30 hours). Since then i have shaken it by rocking the fermenter back and forth until the wort froths. With this technique i am getting visable signs of fermentation in 3-6 hours.

So stopper pushed all the way through the carboy, what now?

I was checking every couple hours to make sure it didn't do that. I plan brew days when I'm going to be there more than not for the next 24 hours at least. I think if I had tried this beer in my Mr. Beer Fermenter it would have blown the lid off it... I told the wife that and she was not...

I did it! Thank you HBT community

Yah I get a swell of pride every time I open a bottle and hear the pop of escaping CO2. After I pour it, i take a moment to hold it up to the light and admire how clear it is. Then I drink it and get really full of myself ;)

So stopper pushed all the way through the carboy, what now?

the smallest bucket fermenter i have been able to locate in this area is 7 gallons and doesnt seal / have a hole for airlock/blow off and is the same price as the carboy. I dont nessisarly trust the positive pressure type fermentors, i have been looking for a way to seal my mr beer lbk and put a...

So stopper pushed all the way through the carboy, what now?

ok i have decided to leave it in there at least for the time being. the blow off foam just stoped this morning and there is still about 2 inches of krausen. I think it will be days before primary fermentation is complete. When my star san arrives from hopdawgs i might move it to another carboy...

So stopper pushed all the way through the carboy, what now?

So 15 hours into fermenting my blackberry porter (extract) was fine, plenty of room left in the carboy. At 18 hours the yeast went ape-**** and krausen started coming though the little holes in the top of the airlock. So I quickly wiped the carboy down with isopropyl alcohol and sanitized a...

    Hello from BC

Hello small batch brewer from Kamloops, BC. I started to make my own root beer and ginger beer years ago. I always wanted to brew my own beer but was intimidated by having to deal with huge propane fired boiling kettles and 5 - 6 gallons of wort/beer at once. Then I saw a 3 gallon sized...
